OK I know it don't take a rocket scientist but I just bought an 01 and the lamp under the hood doesn't work.
Before I break something how do you get the cover off to change the bulb? I know DUH!
On the passenger side - in front of the radiator shroud, you will see the electrical wire from the hood - there is a connector if you follow the wire - make sure it is plugged in.
Many dealers/owners disconnect this connection if the hood is going to remain up for long periods (it is not necessary to do so since the light will turn off by itself after 15 minutes).

I did see that it was unplugged but it still won't work after being plugged in, checked the bulb with a meter it's fine. everything else seemd to work so not sure about it being a fuse and according to the manual I don't know which one it is anyway.
Thanks for the response

It is not uncommon. Many owners that attend shows unplug the light since they have their hood up so often at the show. As a result, the contacts in the plug socket get dirty. I would recommend some contact cleaner and a very small wire brush and I bet it will work just fine. When I bought my '97 I had the same problem and that did the trick. In absence of a wire brush you could try plugging and unplugging the light several times to clean off the connections.

Try cleaning the contacts - since it was unplugged all sorts of corrosion/debris is probably present.
My car came without the bulb cover. Couldn't buy just the cover, so ended up buying the whole assemble from Gene Culley at gmpartshouse.com for around $20.
Thanks for the Welcome to the C5 section, some of you I've met from time to time at the Dayton get togethers from the Great Lakes section.
Great people on the Corvette forum in all sections.
I had to leave yesterday so I didn't get to work on it anymore.
Planned on cleaning the contacts or terminals today and checking voltage to see if there's juice that far.
I could'nt find which fuse was linked to it but I did check the bulb and it's good
By the way I could'nt believe the difference just driving the C5 home
WOW! I know I'm going to love it. Can't even compare it to my C3 even though I dredded getting rid of it. The only I could say after driving a
C5 is BYE! BYE!
Another thing to look at is...do the lights on your inside rearview mirror work also? The mirror lights and the underhood light are on the same circuit. If neither of them work, remove the floor mat on the passenger side, remove the fuse box lid you'll find there, then check to see if the 20A fuse in position 2 is still good. Had this same problem on my 04. Replaced the fuse and lights were back on.

Those lights work, I can't find anything else not working
