I did mine one evening after work. Took me a couple hours following one of the write ups a forum member had posted. It's not too difficult, just take your time.
Change just motor: 45 minutes or so
Change motor gear to brass: about an hour
Pretty easy fixes.
Why do you need to change the motor? What issues are you having with it?
Local dealer wanted $650 parts and labor to replace motor, part was supposedly on back order nationally, and they wanted me to pay for the part in advance.
Checked with Mid America who had the part for $30. They also had instruction sheet on their website that you can print out.
Nowadays, I am only moderately mechanically inclined. After studying the mechanism for a bit, it took less than an hour start to finish.
Good luck.
P.S. I figured it was a no-lose situation, GM would only replace the whole motor and they can't get the part, and even if I totally messed it up, I would have shipped a box of parts to Mid America who would do a rebuild for around $175(I think).
It probably takes about an hour to swap out the motors. I just bought a new one and replaced it. If you don't have huge hands, you can do the procedure with only removing the cover and the fascia. The FSM says to remove the lower panel and access it from underneath, nonsense it can be done from above as I mentioned.
