Default Drag rim suggestions

I am just considering a set of tires/rims for the drag strip next season. I have a complete spare set of 2003 Z06 factory rims. Was thinking about 275/40/17 ET Street Radial tires on the spare front Z06 rims. What is the suggested front tire/rim with this setup. I know I could run my stock tires on front. But if I want skinny tires - ET front tires? Not sure what make 4" rim, and where to get it.
Looking for specific suggestions!

Default rims

I'm running the front 17" Zo6 rims with ET Streets on the rear. Front I am using GTO Spares, 4.5"x16" with Goodyear Frontrunners. Very-very stable at 125 mph on mine so far. Pic attached...just pulled a 1.48 sixty foot Saturday with this setup. Terrible burnout too !!! Pit-man

Just order from the dealer if you can't find on ebay. By the way, they have to be slightly shaved in the center...i mean slightly. I used a drill with a cone shaped carbide grinding bit...one minute a wheel is all it really takes. Just brace your arm and go lightly around the center area till they will fit flush.

Do those GTO spares stick out at all??? Do you have a close pic of the GTO spare?? Looks like this may be an outstanding budget drag rim setup when coupled with some 16x8 T/A wheels.

When you're talking about grinding, are you saying to grind out the inner diameter of the hub so they'll fit over the C5 hub??? Can you show pics of this grinding?

Sorry for the questions, this just really interests me as I don't want to (and can't afford) a Drag Pack anytime soon.

How much do the GTO spares weigh compared to the CCW skinnies?

Default Ccw

Don't know but I am sure the quality is better on ccw rims. I just didn't have the money right now as my clutch\tranny problem has put a serious drain on my bank account. 2 tranny's and 2 clutches and still have the same issue..will not shift @ high rpm. So....GTO was my direction for now.

I think, not sure, but I think the CCW fronts are 33lbs rim and tire. Just curious if the GTO spares are anywhere close. If they can come close then they would be a great way to go.

Well, mine are only 18 lbs with tire but I am running Goodyear Frontrunners..probably not really for that rim but they do work and work very well so far. Once again, I did a best sixty of 1.48 Saturday and a new 125 mph best the week before....they are very stable on my car. Good Luck. Pit-man

18lbs!!! Wow. That is light. 1.48 60's are pretty good. What RPMs are you launching at?

Default Launch

If the track is prepped good, Holding close to 5000, slaming the gas and releasing clutch at the same time. Log shows 65-6800 rpms most of the time. I haven't run the 1/4 yet with my new 390 gear and skinny's on a track that was prepped. Saturday at Gainesville, the track was prepped very well. I did make half a run 4 times, best was a 11.5 @ 91 mph. I hit the brakes hard each time because of being flagged 2 weeks ago.
See the Vengeance Racing 575 HP Package Post from yesterday..Jason has a vid of one of my runs..think it was a 12.3 @ 74 mph. I braked again but you can hear the launch. I'm in the black Zo6.......

I can't wait to to get my 60's that low. So far I've been stuck in the low 1.6s.

I was stuck too till I put on the skinny's...that allowed me to drop the air in the ET Streets to 12 lbs. I was having to run 18-22 just to keep it on the track. Now she runs straight and solid.

What's the overall diameter of the tire on that setup. Looks short for some reason. VERY odd looking with the spokes sticking out like that, but hey, if it works.......

Well , the real story is I ordered the fronts from Jegs...the picture shows a normal 16" tread tire. When they arrived I received 22" x16" Frontrunners (no tread, bald like a slick). They fit and were the lightest tire I had ever picked up so I said what the heck. They work and work well so far. There is only about half inch or less of rubber from the rim to the ground once weight is put on them. I'm probably going to only run them this season then order the correct tires. They are rated 149 mph. I was actually afraid to make a full run at first (was going to run up to about 90 and let off) but it was so rock steady I ran the whole quarter twice, 124 & 125 mph runs. They look Funky but I don't care if they can get me a 10.99 or lower ET.

FastB, attached is the link to see what I used to grind out the center area of the rim. It doesnt really look any different from the factory because you are just running it around lightly shaving off some material till they fit over the hub and seat flush to the rotor. The rim almost fits from the factory, it just won't quite sit flat till you shave a little out. Hope this helps..if you lived close by I would do it for you. I just do not understand how someone can drive their vette 100+ MPH on rim that is not intended for highway use.
