Today I was driving home and it seemed that my car kept downshifting as I was cruising on the interstate. I have an A4 so I shifted to third to see if that was the problem and it shifted no problem. When I shifted back to D it was fine but then it was like the RPM's kept jumping a couple of hundreds and back for no reason. I determined it wasn't shifting down, just that I have a random rpm jump up and down. Also while this was going on my cruise control wouldn't work. Could this be electrical or maybe the torque converter? I have no clue. Thanks in advance for any help.
Are you resting your other foot on the brake pedal?
The brake pedal switch will cause the cruise to disengage and also the torque coverter to come out of lockup which will raise the rpms a few hundred. Maybe it is out of adjustment.
You can try yourself by lightly touching the pedal while cruising.
