I want to upgrade to a sick ratio..i'm talking 4.10...yes, that's sick and I can already see my MPG go straight into the sewer...but does that REALLY cost some $1,700?!!?
Someone lend an assist here....

Theres more to it than just numbers. What year, engine mods and trans do you have now? A 4:10 in a 6sp makes 1st gear almost useless but in an A4 its doable. Then theres the clutch/TQconverter. If you have an A4 with a 2:73 then you need an entire new pig. $2K is the ball park figure. Good luck, you may want to do some more home work, before starting this project, unless you've done them before.
Had mine installed by ECS. Chris, Doug and his team. $1295 for the 4:10's. Had it done while I waited. I'm still getting between 25 and 26mpg and that's better than the wifes Honda CRV four banger. 75 mph 1895rpm. Wouln't recommend going that route with the A4 but the M6 seems right at home with the 4:10's-couldn't be happier.
I am still looking for a black A4 97-04 (If anyone can help, please do!), and if I change the gear ratio to 4.10, i'm gonna get acceleration out the ying yang, however, my top end will drop like a rock and my gas mileage will be like 8MPG LOLOL

No problem as long as that's what you want your C5 to turn into. The only drawback to those going to these "sick" ratios is the law of unintended consequences. But it looks like you know exactly where you want to end up... more power to ya'
In regrads to those saying "new"... Getrag never mfgrd C5 carriers with the 3.90 or 4.10 ratios. So, any "pumpkin" purchased with these ratios will have to of been a rebuilt variety. And not that this is bad or anything... just a data clarification.
and if I change the gear ratio to 4.10, i'm gonna get acceleration out the ying yang,
as long as you can keep the tires from going-up-in-smoke...
Oh you're right, you're right...4.10 ratio is insane anyway and a complete waste of time off the track...g'head, drive that in the snow LOLOL!! ^_^. Ultimately, i'm looking for a 3.10 variant or maybe, at the absolute highest 3.43...I can hold ground with those very well without sacrificing the fuel tank entirely.
