Blower fan making noise..HELP!!
Before I wedge my fat azz under the dash tomorrow how hard is it to get to the blower motor. it sounds like something got stuck in the blades of the fan and now its pissing me off. Step by step would be a +..
my 02 has been somewhat loud from day 1, not right for sure, but WTF it's a vert, so either the music, run flats, top down air noise, high rpms, or tire squeel usually drown it out ... no really ... is there a fix that doesn't include big $ or big time
please note my X gf yapping also drowned it out - but - NOT A GOOD solution... she is history ... the vert stays, compared to her it is barely annoying

Now, its fixes like that, that scare me. I just keep seeing myself sitting at a light (like the guy in that Progressive commercial who bangs his dash to stop the noise) and then the whole car falls apart.

That worked for me for a while. still works as long as the fan is on high when I first starts.
Often the noise is made by a leaf or pine straw which is being struck by the rotating squirrel cage fan. As the previous poster noted you can run your fan on high speed for a while and it should chew the leaf up and toss it out in tiny pieces.
Take special care to avoid parking where leaves can drop on your car.
Also, anytime you do see leaves piled on your cowl area, take a couple of minutes and pick them all out of there or some of them will make their way into you HVAC system.
I had to remove a mouse nest from mine and if I can do it anybody can( I'm an old f*** 64) As I remember you remove the panel on the passenger side then take out 3 bolt can't recall size. You also need to remove a small hose and jockey the motor and fan as a unit. I am sure there are others that can add more. Maybe they will chime in. Good luck
Ditto on the mouse nest. Turn the heater on. If there is a strange smell, it's a nest. Move the seat all the way back and get the blower motor out. Pretty easy.

i had tons of pine straw and leaves that i cleaned off the cowl i also used copresses air to blow out but i might have blown in..
If you truly do have the mouse in your heater fan problem, then you'll definitely want to take a look at this thread. Warning: Don't be in the middle of breakfast when you pull up this thread. It has pictures, and they ain't pretty!

ok,well im safe. no mice. !!! pulled the fan motor down and there were a few leaves in the fan cage. it was suprizingly clean in there. removed them and all is quiet..real easy to do.
Remove upper plastic under foot well (behind the glove box)to expose the motor.
i used a 7/32's nut driver to remove the three bolts that hold the motor in.
disconnect drain hose and plug and it slides right out.
Only 3 bolts or nuts as I remember. Pull it out and see weather the bearings ore shot or not. While you are there make sure you dont have any creatures residing in your ducts. I didn't but had some crud up there. Have fun BIGHANK
