Well I have had my 2001 Silver coupe for two years now. I bought it from the original owner with 30k miles on it. I have had minor issues with it ....refrigeration leak ($300), both window (forget the technical term) tracks/devices replaced ($300 each), the driver's seat wiring harness replaced ($500), and a traction control sensor ($300).
Other than the small electrical gremlins mentioned above, the car has run like a champ....doesn't leak so much as a drop of fluid, oil, etc. It has been a complete joy to drive.
However, today I hit my SECOND deer. The first deer did about $5,000 damage. This deer hit the exact same spot and I am sure it will be slightly less damage. Insurance covers it ...but it just seems like me and the car are going to have to part ways. I live in central Texas and the Tx Dept of Wildlife estimates that the deer here are 1400% overpopulated. The road I drive to work has no less than a dozen fresh kills daily. The chevy body shop guy says they process 30-40 deerstrikes a MONTH, and he is one of about 30 bodyshops in town.
I am seriously considering trading the vette in and getting a truck with the largest grillguard made. So either talk me out of it ....give me a ray of hope....or the vette is gone.
P.S. I plan on buying a truck once I pay the vette off, so the vette doesn't have to be my daily driver, but at this rate I won't have a car left to drive.

I hit one some time back...Got a new paint job out of it...since then ...I try and be alert around deer traveled roads...just be alert and look for the glint of their eyes in the headlights.....I also try and drive a bit slower when I know they are around...no worries my friend just be cautious and be glad you dont live in Jersey...
Unfortunately paying attention around here doesnt help much ...the deer actually run into the car .....I should have phrased it better "today a second deer hit me".
Seriously ....one day I quit counting dead deer when I hit 100 ....this was over a 90 mile stretch between here and the next town. I estimate the number was closer to 200. It is not unusual on the little 5 mile run I make to work to see 3-4 people hit deer while driving in that 5 minute time frame. We are building a house and moving ...but it wont be finished until spring ....so another dreadful winter of deer dodging.
that happened to Yvonne (though she wasn't in her Corvette). She slowed down to let the deer cross the road. It wouldn't go; so she slowly passed it. Once beside the deer, it took off and ran right into her car
Nice hummer,,,but a big buck will cause big $ damage even to that!
Hope it never happens!
That's what insurance is for. I'm more concerned about surviving the encounter. In the local news today, a teenage girl was killed when the car she was a passenger in struck a deer and then bounced into an eighteen-wheeler. I feel more protected in this vehicle than in the tin-box PT Cruiser I was driving or the Mustang before that. At least in the Hummer, I have the mass to withstand a heavy strike at speed. It's not a given I'd fare well but I like my chances better than if I were in a Civic or a C5.
Get a deer whistle, I don't have any left.
However, I still have plenty of elephant & tiger whistles left if interested. (guaranteed to scare tigers & elephants away)
