Default Stock Top Speed?

What is the top speed for a 99 C5 with the 6 speed. What about the a vararam? Vararam claims 8-11 mph faster top speed with their product alone. Any truth to that? I ordered one anyway.

Assuming you have a Coupe (fastest C5), it is about 176 mph.

The Z06 and FRC are slower, so is the VERT.

It is all about aerodynamics and horsepower, but mainly aerodynamics, as even 55 HP doesn't make Z06 faster than Coupe.

I doubt that intake can generate enough HP to make 8-11 mph faster.

Yeah I have a coupe. Do you think with the vararam, tune, and granatelli catback the car could hit 180?

For the Coupe, the top speed was around 175 per the factory.

Ive had my '99 FRC to 160 with myself (230 lbs) a passanger at 230 lbs and a trunk full of luggage. It climbed very fast. I stopped it there because I was running out of room to play. I can guarantee you that I could have seen 170+ if I had stayed in it and got there even quicker if I hadnt had a passanger and all the luggage. My mods at the time were just full exhaust and BlackWing intake. I think the whole aerodynamics thing is just something the Coupe guys like to spill because the FRCs and Z06 have better looks. HAHAHA! JK

I wonder what you can get an A4 with a 2.73 up to?

Maybe downhill with a hell of a tailwind.

To add that kind of mph at top end requires more HP than a CAI will deliver. Before I believe it I want to see conclusive test results. My .02 anyway.

Wow, 176 how long to get there stock, you will need lots of open road for that, better question in how fast in the mile I know my slow Vette will do 180+ and that is where life begins in a C5

I've had mine to 140 recently and ran out of real estate (right Ed) and it still was pulling hard. That's with the A4, 3.42 gears, Vararam, AR headers, hi-flo cats, x-pipes and Corsa cat backs. If I can get it up to 175 I'll be in heaven. Who needs more than that? I'm sure someone does

<- Funny you should say that, that's what I have under my avatar.

Aerodynamics can certainly be overcome with more HP, I've gone up to 183 mph with still plenty more to go on a closed track. Transmission is totally stock. I am pushing 100+ rwhp than stock though. I doubt just a vararam could get you past 180. Just make sure if you are to attempt such a feat, that your vette is in perfect working condition and that its done under the right conditions.

The vararam won't give you 8-11 mph more top speed, but it should get more air into the engine, and combined with a better exhaust to exhale that spent gas, your acceleration times can drop a few tenths to the point of where you can actually feel it.

From a stop, it takes about 26 seconds to get to top speed of 176 mph.

Don't forget the HP gain from the Performance Hood Seal, that should put you right up to around 200 mph.

mine hit 180 w/blackwing and corsas. i have a vararam now but i wont be going that fast again to see if it goes any faster. windows poped out at about 170 and the car starts to float a lot. life goes by way to fast to try that without work done to the car first.

According to several Magazine articles 184 is not uncommon.
