I posted this in the Tech side and Parts side but I also know the General side gets more visibility so...
Can someone please tell me how simple it is and where I could find the best price on the O2 sensor that is behind the Cat converter? I have an Engine light on and found out by the dealer it was the one O2 sensor on the drivers side. One question I have is should I replace both? I have a 2000 and the part number they gave me was #25317697 for $201.35 each. He also said all I had to do was replace this and then disconnect the Batt for awhile and the engine light will go away. Is that true? Any info on this would be great! I don’t mind doing the work myself. They wanted almost $400 to do the whole thing. I just didn’t know if one goes out that means the other one is right around the corner. You know Murphy’s Law!
You can enter that Part # on his website and get a price. I assure you it will be much cheaper than the local dealer.
I don't know about disconnecting the batt cables to clear a code but you can always use the DIC buttons. That will kill your CEL.
Your call on replacing both rear sensors, they do have the same miles, but, then, so do the front 2. I guess it depends on how often you like to jack the thing into the air. I'd probably just do the one, but I'm a tightwad.
any local atuoparts chain should have them or be able to get them. But My first call is always to Gene Ciulley at www.GMPartsHouse.com.
If you have not installed them before the connector is on the frame rail just ahead of the passenger door. It is easiest to replace them if you remove the exhaust system. Put a light coating of anti-seize on the threads of the new ones. Some route the wiring about the tunnel plate to provide additional protection from exahasut heat. Others put heat socks(from a racing supply shop) normally used over spark plugs on the new sensors as asdditonal heat protection if they are running LT headers.
