The past couple months I have been smelling a strong fumes in my garage. The car of course is kept in the garage and it is my daily driver. Today however is the worst I have ever smelt the fumes and also I noticed a puddle in front of my rear driver's side wheel. I bent down and swiped my finger through it and it wasn't thick or slimy but rather like water. When I smelled the liquid it had a very strong smell of gas.
However the past couple days I have heard something when I'm driving coming from the rear underside of the car. Sounds like something is loose and clanking around in the back.
What could be the problem and would it help if I posted pics from underneath the car ? I am really concerned and haven't the slightest clue as of what to do.

That is the area of the fuel filter. Best to get it checked quickly. The filter is up on the frame rail just in front of the rear driver's side tire (at least on mine it is).
how can I check my fuel filter . . . Is there a tutorial that I haven't been able to pull up in the search menu ? Really don't want to take it to the stealership.
I had the same problem, tighten the push in connections first see if that helps then get a new filter,oh and don't but the little tool for changing the filter it dosen't work well.waste of money.
If this link doesn't work search, "fuel filter replacement" in tech.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. . . I found plenty of information on how to replace the filter. . . Just need to buy some parts and do a lot of reading and I'll be good to go !!
My 98 C5 leaked like a sieve the plastic connectors disintigrate
I had a leak in the same place. Posted how I did the job about 6 months ago. I removed the 2 bolts holding the left muffler onto the H pipe. Didn't have to remove the muffler but I got more room to play with the rotted out retaining clip. MAKE SURE you CHANGE BOTH PLASTIC RETAINERS as after 9 years they are certainly deterioriated.
Took about an hour to do. Worst part was getting the clip off WITHOUT DAMAGING the nonmetallic fuel line. If you do that you are
in for a costly and PITA replacement. BIGHANK
