Thanks for everybody's replies. Think I'll forget the jackstands and put some carpet under each tire...and yes the 300 mph speedo is because my car was purchased new in Ontario.

This thread always resurfaces this time of year. The opinions vary as do the reasons supporting them. I choose to put it on jacks on the x-beam adapters I had made. I will pull the wheels off and give them a good cleaning and a coat of wax. I've left them off pretty much all winter (for those worried about the suspension) except for last year when I was still driving the car in December due to the mild weather. With the car up I also clean/claybar the lower part of the car easily before spring. I used to pull the battery and let the car sit all winter. The last 2 years I have started and ran the car for 15 - 20 mins every other weekend. With it up on jacks I change the oil before taking it down for the season (should appeal to those worried about excessive moisture). The jacking points under the car are considered in design (no stress to the contact points). The "alternate" points are the ones on the outer edge of the frame rails. Considering what I can do over the winter with the car on the jacks and with no history of problems (even on my old C4); I prefer that option. As far as "what would I do if there was a fire"; the car would probably be the least of my problems and I have insurance for that. There's more cars...I'll take the chance. Have a short winter!

If put on jackstands, gravity will make the top of the tire flat-spot.

The old Vettes, you could hardly open/shut the doors when they were on stands. Start the old girl once a week for 15 minutes, drive it around the hood on dry days for a few minutes and keep it on the battery tender the rest of the time-you'll never have a problem.

Put it on jack stands just so the moisture doesn't get to the tires? Put the tires on a piece of plywood or a piece of tile instead of going to all of that work.
