My `98 TR MN6 has 29,xxx miles now. Bought it last year with 20,000 miles.
Since I sold my house last year and now have limited parking had to get rid of my 3rd car, so my C5 MN6 became my daily driver. (shifting doesn`t bother me)
My driving pattern is mostly street stop and go here in So Cal and sometimes on the freeway for short distances.
Wondering if any of you use your C5 in a similar manner and if yes how many miles have you accumulated driving this way. Have you noticed any unusual wear and tear anywhere because of the repeated stop and go?
I drive average to agressive but never over 3500RPM.
I feel conscious that somehow i`m ruining my C5 in this horrible So Cal traffic.
This is my 4th Vette and none of the three were used as daily driver. I used to have an `87 Fiero GT 5 speed as a beater...should have never sold that car.
I use my C5 (99 A4) here in SoCal as a daily driver. No problem for me. I bought it at the end of the summer with 48K miles and it has 51.5k now. It's a blast to drive a vette as a DD. It's my only car too. They were ment to be driven and can handle more hard driving then most cars so you should be fine. I think if it's not currently in a museum or car collection with under a thousand miles then what the are you waiting for in using it.
Although freeway miles are easier on an engine than stop & go miles, I don't think you're going to hurt your car in any way using it as a daily driver.
DD here - 2000 coupe. Purchased with 29,319 miles on it in August, now has 35720 + on it. Round trip is about 55 miles
Perfect car for the commute. Gets rid of a lot of the daily job stress every time I turn the key to start it!
drive my 2000 coupe everyday and it kicks *** and yes i drive it in the rain and also bring it through the car wash. if i wanted a garage car that i would just stare at and dust off i woulda bought a 67 427 or 69 427 or something like that.
I have had 4 C5's over the years- they were weekend toys...that is pretty much a waste really...I just bought a 97 MN6 coupe recently and it is my DD- they get great gas mileage and nothing, and I mean nothing puts a bigger smile on my face going to work or leaving!
I say drive it! hell, the amount of cleaning I do on it over the weekend people still think its brand new! they can't believe it is my DD...I get the "oh, you brought it out of the garage today huh?" I say nope- I bring it everyday!
about 10k on it so far this year. I drive it about as hard as you can. I live about a mile from where I work, I come home for lunch. it drives for about 4-5 minutes 4 times a day, in the winter it doesn't even think of getting to operating temp before its time to shut down. I wish I could say that I've had trouble free miles with it, but almost all of the problems were with it when I got it...had I only known!

Our 99 Vette is a weekend toy. My nice weather driver is a Talbot yellow 88 Fiero GT 5-speed. It's a keeper for me.
My '99 is a DD as well here in S. Calif.. The bad part is stop and start driving but hopefully on the freeways, you might get a little luckier. I've been driving mine back and forth to work on the 2nd shift since I bought it in late '98. At the moment, 61 miles one-way and for a while it was 91 miles one-way. over 301K miles now and still going strong but I've spent money keeping it in good shape. Nothing lasts forever.
