Hey guys,I got rid of my run flats and want to get one of those temp tires to carry on long trips, does anyone know what I should look for and do they even make a 17" donut wheel.
The ID of the center hub hole will have to be machined out slightly to work on a C5/Z06. The bolt pattern is the same.
You might also be concerned about the OD of the late model GTO tire/wheel spare so that there is no potential for damage to the rear axle.
I too have given this thought but am a little discouraged with the prospect of jacking with a already low car made lower by a flat tire.
Also where do I put a jack ??
Lets face it a sissors jack isnt going to make it so you will need a really low profile floor type jack.
Guess I would reccomend just calling someone to get the tire changed ,or to someplace where it could be done.
I think I will stick with some kind of runflat... ????
Let me know if you find a way.
Thanks,
Mike

I found an aluminum scissors jack (Porsche or Mazda RX7) that collapses down to 3.5". It weighs maybe 3-4# with the handle.
I figured I can air a tire up enough to get the jack into position and repair the tire with the plug kit I carry.
I bought a scissors jack at Walmart then carry two blocks of wood pieces of a 2x4. That gets it high enough to get the jack under the car. Then a cheap electrical pump (cigarette lighter input), and a tire plug kit. I carry a pliers and screwdriver also. I have found most of my flats are from screws in my tire. I just unscrew it then use the plug kit to fix it.
I keep a plug kit and air pump in the storage well and don't worry about a spare or a jack. But that is just me. Good luck, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I carry a little aluminum jack from a Mercedes E class( I think a 2002 model) that is 3" when collapsed and weighs 2 3/4 lbs. I have runflats but want a low profile jack with me in case the car does need to be raised and the shop dosen't have a low proflie jack or the car needs to be raised along side the highway for any reason. I also carry a set of lifting pucks made from hockey pucks so If I have to have the car raised on a lift, at a dealer or a tire shop, and they don't have pucks---I do.
I had the first GTO spare when my son got his 04 GTO it looked like it would fit.
If I'm reading the sidewall correctly on the GTO tire in your photo, it's 145/70R17. That would be a tire that is 25" in diameter. The stock rear tire on a C5 is 26.66" diameter. The GTO is really to small in diameter to be used as a spare if you need to drive on it for any distance without possibly damaging your limited slip diff.
