The cost for that warranty is just loaded in to the sales price. Unfortunately over here the local BMW service is crap.

What an interesting thread....

I'll take a stab here.

Reliability: I have never had any major issues with mine in 97K miles. The only issues were cats replaced under warranty, throttle position sensor went bad at 96K ($100 cost and a DIY), seatbelt latch went bad but was replaced under warranty.

My opinion is if you buy a Bentely manual, go to M3forum or E46fanatics.com, and own an OBDII scanner there are few problems you can't resolve yourself.

Interior: Not even a contest. Sorry guys, GM makes the worst interiors ever known to man. But my nappa leather adds 0 rwhp.

Performance: Different. Not better not worse. It comes down to the difference between a 333 inline 6 vs a 350 (non Z) V8. I am jonesing for a V8 with serious and inexpensive HP with the help of the blower. A blower on an M3 will yield 525 hp (not rwhp) for 11K. Or you can get a turbo with 750 crank HP for 20K! Corvette tax? Pish Posh. LOL.

The handling is also different but I don't track (vert ) so I am not an expert.

People: Lots of cool BMW enthusiasts. BUT TONS MORE DICKS. NOONE EATS THERE OWN LIKE BMW OWNERS.

Hope that helps.

You can get the same from other car makers and get better quality as well. The German car makes have been worse than US car makes for quite a few years now. The early 90s (almost 20 years ago) book "The Machine that Changed the World" about how Toyota improved quality pointed out how badly the German makes were in comparison to the rest of the world. They really had the opinion they could inspect quality into their cars Vs design and build it in.

As for what you get with the BMW so called service/warranty plan is debatable at best when you consider the cost you pay for a few oil changes and other normal service items Vs what how much more they charge for their car. You get what you pay for and sometimes what you are paying for is a thinner wallet.

I have always been a Chevy man myself and always had a Vette, Tahoe, Silverado, etc. My wife has always drove BMWs and I have to say that they are without a doubt the best "service after the sale" company we have ever dealt with. Never an issue, never a problem, new loaner everytime we go in for service, and best warranty going. I still drive a Vette and Tahoe, but wife's BMW really has changed my thought process about manufacturers and brands.

I am going to respectfully disagree with you on this point. While I would concede that, on a performance basis, a C5 vette or later is on par with many german cars, that is where it ends.

Taking the price point difference out of the equation, you cannot tell me a Ford Taurus is on par with a a BMW 5 series. You cannot tell me a Pontiac Grand Prix is on par with an Audi A6. Or a Ford Mustang is comparable to a 335i. Maybe you can make an argument with VW vs American cars, but only maybe.

Please don't misunderstand me, I am not a german car tool that thinks they are the best no matter what. But after owning many cars from both countries, Germans have the quality battle won hands down.

With that being said, I can't to get my hands on a blown C5!!!!!!!!

People: Lots of cool BMW enthusiasts. BUT TONS MORE DICKS. NOONE EATS THERE OWN LIKE BMW OWNERS.

Wow its funny here is a link talking about M3 and Vette and performance in the M3 forum. Alot of good compliments and no personal attacks and then you come to Vette forums and get comments like the one above. Sound like your the DICK!

Read the forums below and view for yourself..
Every car owner in every make and model has dicks the idiots as I see it everyday on the road. Don't slam the car and sterotype the people that own them.

Please reread my post again along with another I wrote later in the thread. You will see that you misunderstood my post. I am "slamming" neither car manufacturer, actually, I am praising both and highlighting some shortcomings of both manufacturers. All makes and models have them.....the people that drive them have them as well.

As far as the personal attack goes, I think you are stretching the rules of internet forums a bit.

This forum's rule is :

The Forum should be a place where we treat one another with civility so that it remains a fun and friendly place to hang around with other Corvette enthusiasts. Hostility to others is rude and inappropriate.

Personal attacks cannot be tolerated. Attack ideas, not fellow Forum members.

I was not attacking another forum member (unlike you my dear fellow with the dick comment directed at me). Was I generalizing about the BMW community? Sure, but then again show me a BMW enthusiast that would disagree with me. Actually many BMW owners actually like the reputation on being aloof.

Furthermore, you seem to think I am not a fan of vettes and am merely trolling here. Read my sig for final clarification.

Finally, I apologize if I offended you. It was not my intention. Let me make it up to you. Here are four commas (,,,,). Please feel free to use them in your future post so that people don't discount your opinion because you write in run-on format.

Moderators: Sorry for the all the ruckus.

So question is then who are referring to then in the above statement? I do take that as a personal attack and anyone else that may own one. Such a general stereotypical statement. Do you agree racial profiling is good? Are all Vette owners old white guys?? Are you better someone because you are richer? Well if the answer is no to any and all these questions why not just keep the comments positive and not single out any group and make such comments if your trying to be positive. Again I agree that there are many idiot drivers on the road but I'm not here singling out a one group maybe neither should you.. Just a suggestion.. Ok on to better topics..

Comparing the BMW and the C5 is like trying to decide if you want to wear ballerina shoes or combat boots. Two entirely different beasts. My '04 330i ZHP is a fun car to drive. Not as much power as the M3, but the same suspension and tighter steering. Great for a DD, but the C5 still makes me smile more. As far as maintainence costs, a warranty is a must for any BMW. Period. My sunroof went off of the tracks and broke, and it was nearly a thousand bucks to fix if it wasn't covered under warranty. They're reliable, but when they break it's gonna cost you. And yes, BMW has everyone beat when it comes to wheels. Some of the best stockers out there.

Getting better in terms of reliability, but still at the bottom regarding fit and finish, interior materials and design, driving 'feel', and looks in general. And yes, this includes Corvettes.

The new CTS looks to be a very good first step. If only I could order a Vette with that interior...

I would not go with a 7 series unless I was extremely rich.

BMWs do have regular headaches (need for repairs).

Personally, I feel it is hard to beat a Vette, esp with price and reliability.

You can always locate a garage queen that is still under warranty.

Excellent way to have a fantastic car and not spend a couple million.
