I'm going to check out a Silver, 2002 Z06 this upcoming Monday morning. It has 32,000 miles and has had 1 owner. The dealer is asking $27,800, but a few other Z06's with similar mileage have sold for around $25k. I'm wondering if this would be a legitimate price to go for, or am I looking for too good of a deal? I already have financing through Capital One, so I'm wondering if I could use this as a bargaining tool to get the price. Any tips, and/or suggestions as this is the first car I'm getting from a dealer? I've always paid cash for my cars and usually through family members, so not really used to haggling...
Also, I have lurked for a while here and have printed out the "checklist" to go over while looking at the car, and know about the key locking mechanism and battery issues that these cars have.
Kotlas,
...I think $25,000 is a reasonable price if the car checks out okay with your checklist and a test drive. With a listed price of $27,800 some dealers would deal down to $25K and some would not. IMO you should not tell the dealer you have already arranged financing. Dealers make money on financing and they may be inclined to deal more with you if they are thinking they will make more money on the financing.
Good luck,
Jeff
Not too sure on the price, but with financing vs paying cash. Financing with the dealer gets them a cut of the interest you pay, a cash deal doesn't. Contrary to what some people believe, paying cash doesn't provide more leverage for you. Good Luck

The price does not appear out of line if it's a good car.
Use the checklists and go SLOW..if it is a one owner car the Title search will prove it, don't take there word for it. One owner Cars should have the Tire kit , two keys and the user manual just for starters.
Know the WHOLE deal first, what are the added dealer fees on top of the sale ? A GM dealer should be able to provide you with a FULL warranty history as well.
go slow, look at the car, don't LISTEN to the car and loose focus of the big picture.

That price sounds OK, I paid 29.5K for my 02 w/23K miles back in March 07. You're already on the right track by knowing what to look for just don't be pressured. Knowing more than a salesman does about a car can earn you some respect and a better deal! Good luck...
In California from a dealership I have never seen a Z06 with that low of miles for that price, the lowest ive seen is like 29,995 for one with about 35K miles on it. I'm still looking for a deal around here.

32K miles is not what I consider "low miles". There are cars out there with under 15K miles for just a little more money.
Don't fall in love with the first car you look at. It's winter time, there will be more Z's being offered for sale. Just my 2 cents.
I dont know where youll find one with "low miles" around here for under 30,000 at a dealership, you could always talk em down though, specially around this time of year.
