What can you tell me about the Koolkat cb antenna? Planning on a trip and would like to have a little better reception than what the hand held units give you. Any suggestions on alternatives.

IIRC, the KoolKat antenna is an interior antenna so it would be limited in range simply because of being inside the car and having metal around it.
I made my own antenna mount. It's a piece of stainless steel that fits behind the license plate. All I had to do was drill some holes thru the solid material behind the plate and bolt it in. I ran two 12ga ground wires from either side of the mount to the frame rail and ran the antenna cable through the vent on the left rear corner of the storage compartment.
My antenna is a 4' FireStik II and I added a quick-disconnect bracket so the antenna comes off with a half-turn of the mast. My radio is a Cobra 75 WX ST which is a hand-held "all in one" radio.
This radio has a quick disconnect and power supply box that I mounted behind the passenger seat and I installed a plug to use the power supply in the glovebox. It even has 7 channels for NAtional Weather Service broadcasts whic can be a help if you are travelling in areas where the weather can change rapidly.
This setup allows for about a 4 mile range when out in the open. There is no ignition interference noise. The radio has it's own internal speaker, but there is a jack in the power supply box that allows you to run an auxilary speaker for better (or louder) sound. Radio Shack has a decent small speaker #19-318 that has good voice reproduction and does not need external power.

Hi Folks, I'm Stephen and my company is KoolKat. We manufactured CB antennas for Corvettes for years. I saw a question about them and what I can tell you is we sold hundreds of units without any returns. I know where you can still get the Internal unit and also the license plate mount w/your generation stamped in the stainless bracket. Just email me at fasterthanu@comcast.net and I will assist anyone who is looking for CB communications capability from your Vette. FRS is a truly disappointing substitute.
Wavin at ya!

I use a custom rear license plate bracket and a 2' Firestick II NGP since they were designed to work without a metal groundplane. Works great when my club goes on trips....much better than FRS, which I tried first.
Have the Firestick on a quick release so not much shows when I remove it.
I run one similar to this and I get great reception.
I can get at least 3 miles with this setup in my Z06.
best regards -

The Harris Manufacturing is the bracket & set-up that I run on my 02 vert. Had the Koolkat but switched since I wasn't getting good reception with it in the vert. Might be the vert top crossmembers when the top was down.
