my '02 Z is in pristine condition with the exception of a small amount of rash on the right front and back wheels. Any suggestions on how to proceed to fix the rash. I am located in the Walnut Creek area in Northern California and would appreciate any feedback.
On my previous Aluminum wheel Vettes I used a dremel tool with several different bits, smoothed out the rash and it polished up nicely.
I am thinking the procedure is the same except now we have the special wheel paint to deal with , maybe mask very carefully and use an Airbrush when the rash is smoothed out to paint the surface. Very very light multiple coats of paint.
Certainly if you could pull the wheels and tires, this would be an easy project...but I ain't doin' that..and I too have a small amount of rash...
there is a thread around here somewhere with the wheel paint info...
Here in St.Louis there is a wheel place that will recondition the factory wheels to like new condition for $145 per wheel...........they said most of the cost is getting their machine set up so the cost would be for if the wheel has a slight blemish or really bad road rash.
Call around I'm sure there has to be a place similar where you live...
I too am looking for place that does wheel repair/reconditioning here in San Jose bay area. Wheel Works says they have "a guy" who will do the work for about $250... meanwhile I have heard previously that there are indeed places around here charging $150/per.
Regarding buying a reproduction wheel. I've heard folks say they have problems with aftermarket wheels at high speed, shimmy/wobble. Does this also hold true for the Repro's?
There's a place in Hayward called Wheels America.
They do repairs for the Z06 OEM wheel for $125.
You can also buy OEM wheels from them.
I'd stay away from replicas. The OEM are extremely light and well worth keeping.

I just had two of my polished aluminum Z06 wheels done in Dallas
by Wheels America.
Both had curb rash by the previous owner.
They came out looking new ...could not tell they had had curb rash !!!
True, that is why I'm going to spend my money on other wheels.
But even if I was keeping the same wheel, I would wrather get these fixed than to buy a re-production wheel. (unless it was polished and same weight)
