I had the same issue with my 02 Z when I put a Stinger Intake on it. After searching the forum, I did a "Cold Air Mod" written by one of the members Dave68. After I did that, no more engine light. It's something to do with the turbulant air in the MAF, and that our Z's don't have screens on our MAF's. But even though the engine light won't come on, it could still be lean. A tune is the best thing, plus you'll pick up some added hp/tq.
I'm at 5,200 ft altitude and installed a BLACKWING w/ cover on my Z16 when I got it. I also got the same intermittent codes.
Instead of the long round trip and expensive $250-500 tune, I returned to a modified oem intake...not as sexy, but it sounds the same and I get no codes.
Just for fun, check all of the clamps on your intake system to make sure there isn't an air leak somewhere. I found a "pucker" on the after market smooth coupler at the very bottom where it connects to the throttle body. It was impossible to see w/o a small mirror. It didn't cure the codes in my case, but you might get lucky.
