Default C5 ZO6 vs C6

OK newbie here and please dont beat me up too badly if this has been asked.
I have finally gained the means to buy my dream car. Here is my delemma.
Honestly if given the choice would you pick a used C5 ZO6 say an 02 for less money(financed) and pay cash to have Lingenfelter do 2 upgrade packages including a supercharger
OR..
Take the money and place it on a downpayment for a new C6

Keep in mind the improved interior design, heated seats HUD options arent important to me as the speed and handling.

I want to have a car that will handle these new GT500s

Thanks for any opinions and direction. I want to make the right choice before I lay my money down.
BTW I live in Charlotte NC, anyone local that wants to meet up sometime let me know.

Default Thanks!

I have all but made the final choice. I figured if I finance most of the C5 ZO6 then the cash I have can go to some really great upgrades/MODs
But I wanted to get some opinions because I have read on some boards the C6 is incredible. I just cant swing a C6 ZO6. If I want a ZO6 it would have to be a used C5 ZO6.
As I have learned before it pays to ask those who have been there done that before I buy. This will be my 1st Vette. I have had classic muscle cars my whole life and have worked my way up to the ability to own a vette now. I sold my 79 Trans Am and my 72 W-30 442 to get one.
Thanks again!

C5Z w/o a doubt - C6 looks too 'euro-ish' to me. C5z has an old school muscle car charm and uncivility (is that even a word, lol) that the C6 doesn't have.

Refinement FTL

Cool, welcome! I had the same choice, made it for the C5Z as well.

Default Great

Sounds good. I thought the C5 was the way to go. I had some c6 owners tell me otherwise. I thought how can that be? Especially if I have it sent to Lingenfelter for upgrades. The C5 has to be the better choice.
Well, when I pull up next to them this summer I guess the truth will come out right?

get the c5 z06. test drive one and more than likely your taking it home, thats what happend to me. about the gt500 i beat one coming back from the race track. he got raped from a stop (i have bfg's) but rolling it was a drivers race, he was right at my door. all i have in my car is a full exhaust and the vr-2, my car wasnt tuned at the time. so if u just want it to keep up with a gt500 u dont even have to take it to Lingenfelter IMO

Default Good to know

I was wondering about a matchup stock Z06 VS a GT500.
And Yes You are right the C6 forum says otherwise. But common sense tells me if I had upgrades to push the HP over 500 I'd have better bang for my buck. Plus I'd have a car with a lingenfelter logo/badge to attract attention at shows. I currently have a grand prix GTP that is strictly a show car. I have won some best of show trophies with it. It is extremely clean and I have begun a new customzing phase on it for shows thanks to watching too many episodes of Unique Whips. I get some attention but nothing like the vettes get at a show. I want a car that has serious performance to match the show quality. I dont want all show and no go like my GTP is. I want a real head turner.
My 442 was a sweet ride, but the old muscle cars just dont have the handling. My GTP would eat up my 442 or my T/A on curves. So needless to say the vette is a world of class difference from the GTP. I cant wait!

You will love the C5Z06. I got compliments on mine and it was kinda fun to see all the little kids drool over it. Even 2 year olds were drawn to the Z! Girls and Boys alike.

Stock for stock it's a pretty good driver's race - don't forget the gt500 is a fat little piggie. And everything else aside, it's just a mustang (albiet one making a decent amount of power).

If you pull up to a hot girl, 99% of them will see a gt500 as just another mustang. Atleast a Z06 is 'just' another corvette in their eyes

Here is a c6 vs gt500 mustang shootout in car and driver. So obviously the stock z06 would do better http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...avy-pedal.html

Default went through the same dilema

i called boardwalk and got a price on the 08 Vette, then one day i saw both cars parked next to eachother. My mind was set that moment on to get the C5 ZO6. The new cars i like the front end and the targa top but aside from that the car seems to skinny. I like the fat *** of the C5's and the curves. In the end i bought an 03 Z from Pio who is a member on this site, who is a wonderful guy.

Default C5 appearance

The C6 has some appeal but I agree the C5 lines are better. Maybe I just havent warmed up to the new style. The C5 just has more appealing lines IMO. I still cant get use to the non flip up headlights. The C6 looks too much like the Viper to me.
And about the just another mustang, yes good point. I'd rather be thought of as just another vette vs just another mustang.
