Got my 2001 Z06 back this past Saturday after having TPIS LT's and a Magnaflow X-pipe installed-WOW! I originally went for the upgrade to improve on the exhaust sound on my exhaust "amenic" 2001, the added benefit is a solid kick in the SOTP in the mid to upper rpm range. The idle exhaust sound is better-almost like a 2002, the revving exhaust is fabulous!
I would recommend a header and X-pipe upgrade to any 2001 owner-you'll be very pleased all around.

Rickvette, did this setup take away the popping and snapping on decel? I'm planning on doing LT's but am not sure on the X-Pipe - I like the popping & snapping!!!!
ric, how do you get around the pre cat removals??...........this is the only thing stopping me.........emissions..........I am in Tex, and the sniffer's are out. :(
The pre-cats were added for CA emissions only. They only help with a cold start test. If the car is warmed up when you take it in for the sniffer test you'll be fine. I took mine off and we have emissions tests in NC.
For real?????????????  :smash: :smash:
GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!
I am planning a MTI mod, that will net me around 420ish rwhp........and this was the hold up.............
Will it void the wqrranty on your CAT?????
Did you keep your stock TIT muffs?????? :chevy
Rick not sure about the laws where you live, but be careful. Here in California they are a visible check when it comes to a smog test. Also dealers here in California don't like long tube headers and can refuse to do warranty work around them. With this in mind and the fact I could install shorties myself is why I went with B&B's. I am sure I am not getting the results of the long tubes, but they are a direct bolt on. I did notice a difference with the shorties and I like them a lot
To help answer some of the questions raised by my post here we go:
Popping on deacceleration- barely noticeable compared to my 1999 Coupe with Corsa Indy's and No X-pipe. The sound is just powerful and full.
Pre-Cat Removals- Oh well, took a chance-I hope this will not void the warranty. If I have to have major warranty work done, I might have to switch back over to the factory set up. This would involve the purchase of a engine Y pipe with the pre-cats and main cats on it- very expensive!
The header "sound" also induces a little more valve train noise as the pipes act as an amplifer- I like the overall package and am enjoying it greatly!
You'll void your cat warranty due to the cutting needed. But I'm not worried about that.
As for other warranties, if the LT headers don't cause the failure they can't deny the warranty claim.
Also, if you leave your main cats on how many people will even know to look for pre-cats on a visual inspection? Some Vettes came without them...some didn't.... Depends on the year and if it was CA emissions certified.
Reading your thread confirms the decision I took yesterday. I ordered the Maganflow system from LAPD. I am looking forward for sound. It looks I will get it soon…

When did they start sniffing Collin/Denton County? I think you only get sniffed in Dallas. At least, they didn't sniff my 01 when I had it inspected after coming in from out-of-state.
I took the pre cats off my 00' convertible when I added TPIS long tube headers and there was a very small emissions difference, the car still passed by a mile, the shop I used installed 4 sets of TPIS on 01' Z06's and all the cars passed emissions and sounded great, they are puttin them on my 02' in a few weeks when I get back from vacation.
Kept my 2001 factory mufflers. I am satisifed with the sound. I bet 2002 factories are louder as the part numbers are different. My 2001 really sounds "powerful"!
