Recently my car started making a clicking, or cracking sound when you turn a corner, or pull in or out of a tight area. It sounded like it was only coming from the left side. So last Saturday I pulled the wheel to take a look. Everything seemed real tight. I did a balljoint test, again tight. Now last nighr we went for dinner, on the way home I stopped at an intersection and I heard the click when stopping. Mind you, this is not a constant sound. Any ideas??
what you describe is similar to what I had on my 97.. turned out the sway bar end links...metal ones, were not tight ....retorqued and all was fine. annoying untill it was solved. no $$ spent to fix. hth
I can try to take a look at that this weekend. I hope thats all. That would be a nice cheap fix. Did your car make the noise all the time? Or just some of the time?
I had a T/A that did the same thing. on the car the the left front hub assembly appeared fine but it was the source. coming to a slow stop it would click click click just before stopping.
This is just a one time click. It will only do it once. Mostly when I turn. With the braking that just started last night.
It was an intermittant condition and I decided it had to do with how the front sway bar was loading and if the end link might have been in a bind and then got released from the bind and the bar or end link clunked. sometimes it did it multiple times and other times it was once or twice in an outing.
when I first checked I did not find anything but I do not think I had the complete front end unloaded. the end links require an allen set screw to hold the knuckle while you tighten to torqe the bolt. it may have been that when I put the metal endlinks on I did not get them torqued properly but when I figured out the sound location and got under the car that was the only apparant source of the noise. once I loosened the sway bar bushings, loosened the end links and then retorqued all of them I have not had the noise for almost a year. good luck with the checkout...hope this helps. tom

I will without a doubt check this out. It sounds like this can very well be my problem. Thank you.
I see this post is a few years old, but my '02 convertible started making that same click/ pop noise about a year ago. I only hear at very slow speeds usually when turning to manuver or park. My friendly Chevy mechanic can find nothing- we even changed out the harmonic balancer! Still making the noise, more often and louder. Did re-torqueing the front sway bar fix it?
