Default 2004 z-16 questions

good morning everyone. i owned a black 2003 z-06 for 2 yrs and sold this past summer. i had 3800 miles when i bought and 5500 when i sold it. super clean even underneath.i love that car. i decided to jump into the real estate game and sold it. this morning i found '04 z-16 here i north central fla., 3100 miles and very clean altho it is on a car lot outside(why outside i dont know-lol.) asking price is 39.900. lotta tread on orig. tires. couldnt see inside much due to the tint and mornring overcast. the fronts ofthe mufflers are clean with no build up on them. something odd was the 2 center rubber mounts for rear sway bar were greasy for some reason. rear end housing was very clean -no leals. car is clean under the front as well and under seat wells too. i dont know what # z it is. can u tell by looking at the orig. window sticker?. my other drivers are a 1996 impala SS and a completely restored/rebuilt 1955 ford f-100 p/u with 1900 miles now. both are super clean and well maintained. i want another vette and have been watching f or a z-16. opinions please and thanx in advance. happy new year. mike

Good luck....you'll love the Z16. It was a balmy 50 degrees yesterday in PA & I took mine out for a quick run...definitely put the smile back on my face!

I wouldn't worry about the rear sway bar too much...I think they lubricate it from the factory. I bought my Z16 last January and it had 1,200 miles on it...and, as you can see from the picture, the rear sway bar area looked similar to what you're talking about.

You might contact this member...azmusclecar...his Z16 (#1990) is for sale. He's in southern AZ, but travels to PA frequently. The winter weather in southern AZ is mild enough to justify a road trip.

Mine is #1961, btw.

I did the same thing...except I only had one day to purchase the GMPP! Dennis came thru in a big way for me. I bought the GMPP about a week before actually flying down to Florida to see / purchase the car.

It sounds a little high priced, but with the low miles maybe not.
The grease maybe because that had a squeck an greased it.
I live in central fl. let me know if you get it

Default I looked at my Z16 "rear bar" area

This is interesting. After reading the thread, I went out to the garage, and looked.

I expected to find a lot of dirt buildup in the areas on the photos above.
Why: because I have 3/4 mile of dirt road to get to my rock and dirt driveway.

But, it was as clean as a whistle (OK, some "dust" evenly spread on everything). But, no "greasy dirt" spots.

Maybe it's because I washed it in "no-touch" wash a couple of months ago ?
But, I didn't pay the extra buck for "underbody cleaning".

Maybe it's because I did the "North Central AZ to LA to San Diego and back" triangle two weeks ago.
And, it did rain hard from "here to the Colorado River".
Hard to believe any of that would "wear off" greasy dirt. But, ?

Will wonders never cease ?
Or, does it mean my bushings were never "greased" ?

Your's were probably lightly greased & mine & others got a heavier dose.

Also it depends on how hard you drive the car if you "spread it out" or not.

I replaced the bushings on mine & the new (oem) come with grease on the rears, not on the fronts.

Go figure.

Just a note on the tires - she may be low mileage and have lots of tread left on the F1's but if they are the factory set you'll be looking at replacing them pretty quick. These tires become very hard/brittle with age and will seem as slick as snot on glass.

My Z16 had about 11K miles on her when I picked it up. Tires hooked up great then. Now, with 22K on the clock and a little age, she turned 4 in December - I can break them free at just about any speed. They have about 2/32s tread left but are hard as a rock...just a thought when you negotiate.
