Default Tires????

'03 Z06. Mostly stock. What kind of tires sre yall running on the street. The original F1 super jars are done. Michelin, other Goodyears besides F1's, or something like the Kumos. I will be purchasing drag radials too. I just need sugestions on everyday drivers. I live in Houston where summer tires are good most of the year and get caught in the rain from time to time.

I stayed with the GYF1SC tires. I do not like the tread design on some of the newer tires, and some do not come in the exact factory size.
The big "V" tread designs may extract water well, but they just don't look like they belong on a Corvette.

03 Z also. I switched to Toyo Proxes T-1s at 1K miles to get better wet weather performance. They do the job and are almost as good as the GY supercar tires in the dry. Now that GY has the GS-D3 tread design they should be just as good.

Michelin PS2's. Great in any condition you can throw at them. Plus, though it was not my concern, getting great mileage, too.

What qualifies as great mileage and what are your driving habits?
Thanks.

Firestone firehawk wide ovals. They are great for an every day driver. I put a set of these on my 03 Z06 and have been very happy. They are great in the rain compared to the goodyear supercars too, and the price is much better aswell.

03 Z also. I put on Toyo T-1's after the supercar tires wore out. They are great and excellent in the rain although the rears are wearing much faster than the factory tires. I am considering Firestone Wide Ovals next. Although I was burned by the Firestone 500 fiasco back in the 70's, the writeups I see on these new wide ovals are excellent. Likewise their price and 320 AA A rating (yes I know the 320 is very subjective and among the family of tires). Hope this helps.

I'd also vote for PS2's. I don't think you will find a better performance street tire, much quieter than GYSC tires and significantly lighter.

I put on Michelin PS2s after getting around 23k out of my stock F1s. The PS2s are great, especially in wet conditions. Pricey though.

I replaced my original rear tires this year with another set of F1 SC tires at about 27,000 miles on my '04. I never had a problem in the rain when I got caught out in it. My original pair had a DE event and 120+ passes down the dragstrip with long smoky burnouts. I have cut 60' times as low as 1.759. My fronts have 32,000 miles and still tread left. I have no complaints whatsoever with these tires.

Disclaimer: I don't own a Vette....yet

Now, tires. I personally run BFG g-force T/A KDW2s. PHENOMENAL in wet and dry...snow/ice? Don't bother. Great treadwear too. Fairly loud road noise (I'm running 225/45/17s on all 4) even with 3" fully catless exhaust (EH to turbo to muffler).

Other excellent tires (though not sure if ANY of them are made for Vette sized wheels)

-Falken Azenis
-Toyo T1Rs
-Toyo Proxes 4
-Kumho Ecsta

....These are all VERY popular and not low end tires that are preferred among Subaru drivers.

Give Tire Rack a call (877-522-8473) and see what they say.

Just my .02, but I've got the Toyo Proxes 4s on a WRX wagon and I don't see them as performance tires; good all weather tires but no comparison to the Proxes T1s IMO.

Toyo T1's here and wouldn't trade them. I do not track my car though but for everyday driving wet and dry couldn't be happier.

Toyo Proxes T1Rs come in stock C5 Z06 sizes. Not quite as sticky as super cars, but close enough in my opinion, and better in the wet if you get caught out. I've been impressed by their wear even with 12 plus days of road course use in addition to over 5k miles of street use. They're almost 1/2 price of OE equipment which is important only if it's a good tire which IMHO it is.

I've got the PS2's on my car a little more than two years now and I've put at least 20,000 miles on them so far. They go to the drag strip, do a lot of work commuting, I live in an area with a lot of hilly, twisty roads that I enjoy straightening out, some long distance traveling, exceed 100 more than I should and I also like chirping the tires on the 1-2 shift. I'm not excessively hard but I'm not easy on the tires either. Tread of the tires has lots of life left in it. Plus, with the excellent alignment I had done the front tires are wearing well also.

I couldn't be paid to put Wide Ovals on my car again

With the price, and 10/32 of tread depth a good daily driver that will last you a while....I say the GS-D3's
Just wish they made them wider.
