Default Harness Bars/Roll Cage

I would first like to say I totally understand safety first, but. . .

My car would run in the mid 10's on Dr's. I drive my car to the track maybe two times a season. The rest of the time I drive it on the weekend just to enjoy doing whatever. I know the rules regarding safety equipment running these times but the track has not stopped me yet, probably because it's a drive in car, I'm not sure.

I just can't see bolting/welding a roll cage into the car for this. I do like the harness and belt idea which I'm considering.

I see alot of FAST Vettes on our forum, what to you guys do?

Thanks!

I got the 6 point roll bars and took out the seatbelts and put harnesses in thier place. No problems so far. And I drive more than just on the weekends.

For me, since I'm on the street much more than the track I go without. The deciding factor for me was after a conversation with Doug at ECS. I was having a really hard time deciding if I should have a cage put in. The thing he said that stuck in my mind was that if I got into an accident on the street and my head hit the roll cage, that would kill me before anything else. Hell it wouldn't even had to be a bad accident, just smack your coconut in the right place hard enough and game over and it doesn't even have to be death (major head trama...you get the picture). Now if your on the track the helmet would protect you obviously if your head hit the cage. The thought of a cage still sits on my mind and I will do it if the day comes my Vette is a track car more than street. Good luck with your decision and enjoy

BT-01-Vette,

That's something I never thought of and makes alot of sense. I'm still considering the harness bar and belt, which I guess would offer some additional piece of mind.

The funny thing is running 10's in a vette doesn't seem like much. The car goes straight, it's fairly quiet, no shifting, just leave her in drive and off you go.

Thanks!

A lot of the NE wolf pack that are into road course's have the harness bar along with a camera mount. They are always posting their runs which I hope to join them this coming season. My biggest issue is that I work weekends (retail) and the only way I get days off is vacation days not to mention the past 2 yrs I worked a ton of OT We have a track going up in Millville (45mins from me) that will be my best opportunity to get some seat time in on the road course's. The problem with a harness bar with no other rollover protection is if you roll there is no chance to get down. You are held in a upright position ie crushed.
For the people worried about hitting their heads on their cages have you not heard of rollbar padding? at least in the vicinity of your head. Besides if you go and have a custom one put in, you would be amazed how well a professional can tuck the bars up out of the way.

You can make a roll bar that doesn't even come close to your head. Now if you have a convertible, like I do, you will sacrafice top operation while it is in, but I'm 6'8" and I had to make some compromises. I didn't want to compromise roll over safety, so top operation was where I did compromise.

A custom bent and installed cage wouldn't take any seat back movement away either, I know, because mine doesn't.

My roll bar is out of the way of my head, I kept my factory seat belts for normal driving and have 6 point harness for the track or spirited driving

Thanks for the info!

Question: Other then price, how does this set-up compare to the Brey-Krause harness bar?

I built my own. No chance of hitting my head. and it gives me a place to attach belts and it stiffens the body.

Just curious what your mods are -

A4 or MN6/12? Rear gear ratio?

Not asking to bash your claim, RATHER asking just to see what it takes to run mid 10's
