Glad you avoided trouble. My wife was cruisng about 10 over on Dec 24th & was pulled over. The officer saw my wifes "Proud Parent of a U.S. Marine" sticker on the window, then asked her about him...she showed his picture & he said Merry Christmas...just slow down.
Even just being a family member of militery personel can be helpful in this situation.
God bless you Marine & Semper Fi to one of our extended family members!

Sounds like you should stop by Vegas before you deploy.
Thank you for your service. It may not always seem like it but there are a lot of us who really appreciate your sacrifices.

Well, lets see....you were, polite, aware of why you were pulled over, apologetic, and sincere. If I were a LEO, I would cut you some slack, too.
The average response like "Why are you pulling me over? Why don't you go chase bad guys..." probably would have gotten you a ticket.

It's true, a little courtesy goes a long way

Here is an interesting story for you about holiday spirit something or other.
I am in the Marines and just made the trip from NC home to MI to see the family before deploying to Iraq next month. Left my drivers license in my barracks room on accident before the trip.
Driving back from MI to NC this morning, the car was full of junk from Christmas and the long 900+ mile trip, and somehow my registration/insurance got buried in godknowswhere land.
So I am in the mountains on the West Virgina Turnpike cruising in my 02 Z and come to a sign that says "5% grade next 5 miles." At this point I am mostly doing the speed limit. I think "cool" and slap it in Neutral and coast. Well after about 4 miles of coasting and NOT touching the gas pedal (lol or brakes apparently) I started to pick up speed and got pulled over. I explained to the WV State Trooper why I had no license, no registration, no insurance, and was doing 10 over the speed limit. Well guess what, HE LET ME GO WITH A WARNING after looking at my Marine Corps ID Card and running my plate (first time ever pulled over in the Vette).
So I cruise down to North Carolina and try to get on I-40 but accidentally end up on BUSINESS-40, where the speed limit is 15mph SLOWER than I-40. I get pulled over and again explain to the local officer why I have no license, registration, or insurance and was going 15 over. He explained where I should have turned to get on I-40, reminded me to buckle up (of course I WAS, I guess it is just a general reminder to everyone) and sent me on my way with a smile.
First two times EVER getting pulled over in my Vette.
Kind of incredible if you ask me.

I hear ya'... but you assume that all police are the good types.
An ego-LEO may look at your "polite, aware of why you were pulled over, apologetic, and sincere" self and think ... 'I can get my jollies from this wuss'
Like someone else said earlier... this specific outcome is more of "you got lucky" than "your politeness was the defining factor"
And if you don't understand this... then someday life will bite you in the azz big time in this respect... and then you'll understand that not all police are the good types.
Sure, you always should be kind and respectful to the police; but you're still at their mercy if they have an ego to feed.

There are some very cool LEOs out there.
My daughter is currently attending the police academy and will be a Vette friendly LEO when she graduates.
