Help me out here...my 2000 C5 sits alot with trickle charger (smart technology) but the battery is not holding its charge in this 20 degree weather which neither it nor I are accustomed to. Went out this afternoon to shart and it was a no show. Time to replace battery?
Anyone else get this longevity out of their battery and what did you replace it with...thanks.
If that's your original battery, you got much more life than expected, which is due to your using a battery tender. I assume that it was not an AGM battery, if it was your life is only a little longer, but DELCO had problems with their AGM batteries. that's why they discontinued them.
I will only use AGM batteries in my C5, since the computer is under the battery. AGM batteries include: Optima, Excide Orbital, and Sears Platinum. Expect to pay over $150 for one of these.
My Excide Orbital lasted only 5 years (about half it's warrentied life) and I used a battery tender for last year or so.
I now have a Optima Red Top installed and use the battery tender whenever it sits more than 2 days.
A load test is really needed to determine the battery condition. But, if it won't hold a charge (and I bet your DIC memory resets when you start it) it is done.
