Hello from suburban Chicago. I have decided to do some tuning on my 2002 automatic coupe and was wondering which path to go down for my first experience. I guess my options are to go get a street tune from some local shop in the Chicago west suburban area, if I knew of one?? Other option is to pick up a Diablo or Haltech handheld and begin to play a little. My car is mostly street driven but I have been known to take it to the track a few times a year and run a few quarter miles. I am looking for any input from others like me that want to get a little more performance out of our machines but are not really mechanics but can handle some pretty straight forward computer programming etc. The only mods I have done are to put in the K&N air filter, expanded the opening in the airbox and installed Corsa Pace Car exhaust. Any info or input from anyone that has gone down this road would be appreciated. Thanks
You could always post this thread in the Great Lakes regional forum, there are a couple of tuners in the area. I have heard good things about Finish Line Performance in Naperville.
Check out Mike at Straightline Performance......he is a great tuner near you & can help you with your choices.
He did my original tune when my supercharger was installed and he knows his stuff! The Really Nice thing is that he's patient and doesn't mind if you ask questions......and I asked Alot of questions!
Hey, LuvmyC5, where is this Straightline guy or shop located?? I am in the western suburbs and don't mind going on a little trip for the work I want to get done. Let me know if you have contact info. Thanks

There are two Mikes there. Mike the Tuner/Internet Guru and Mini Mike the Wrench Turner/Sales. Either one will take care of you!
Thanks for the referals guys! Feel free to give us a call. We would be glad to give you a hand with your questions and see if we can get a tune done for you as well.
If you haven't had your tune done already, I'd recommend Tuner Mike at Straightline, too. He and the other guys did a great job putting a H/C on my '05 MN6. Of course, they tuned it, as well.

I have an '03 with exactly the same mods that you've made.....K&N, Pace Cars. Everything else engine-related is stock. Would you notice a real SOTP improvement from a proper tune? What would that cost?

Yes you would. Tunes run from $350-$600. We are currently $399 special.

Just got off the phone with a dyno shop in St. Charles. We've made plans for a DYNO DAY or (DAYS) in the spring.
I'm planning to be there for a 3 day weekend and we're expecting a nice crowd. Install services will be available by the shop in addition to their dyno.
I'll be there for the Tune-a-RAMA..... All we need is for the snow to melt and for you guys to pick a day....
Call me to let me know what works for you.....

Dan Bills at Finish Line Performance in Naperville (630-717-0824) is one of the best tuners in the Midwest, if not the entire country.
Dan is an Excellent Tuner but I wouldn't spend the price of a full tune unless I had an F/I car or at the Very Least a Cam! To spend $500-550 for a tune for a bolt on car isn't going to get you that much bang for your buck! This is just my opinion and it's your money, so who am I to tell you what to do!
Heck, if I had a bolt on car, I'd just call ECS for a mail orer tune or Charlie from RPM and get the $150 specials!

Do you plan on doing more mods in the near future? If so I would hold off on the tune for now.
If you dont plan on mods right now, but might in the future then I would go with a local tuner that you can build a relationship with so later you have someone close that you trust when you decide to mod.
If you are not sure of your plans then surely the ECS Mail order tune would be a good start and for $159 you really cant go wrong.
