I like the look, but I think I would do something like Patches did for the one he has. Although I don't know if my car will ever be a clean as his are!

I got the 650 from costco online for 300. If they're out, just check back in a few weeks.

Get the Nuvi 650 you will love it, I have the 660 and it is awesome and your concern on the reception on the lower location does not present a problem, I have used mn Nuvi 660 in the stock cup holder area and no issues. What I like about the 650/660 it tells you the street name and to turn left or right so I do not look at my Garmin that often when on the road anyway

Formerly had a portable, and it really does need to be as close as possible especially in traffic as does the Smokey Bear detector.

I agree, a long way from the windshield.
A.J. if you are happy who cares if others hate it? #!^& them!!
I mount mine on the center wind shield.
Maybe for Talldude in Nevada it is illegal to mount on the windshiled as it is in some states.

Mine is in the centre, suction cup on the windshield looks like hell, but I like the line of vision.

Default Make it portable

We use our Garmin 600 in 3 different vehicles so we want it portable. I bought a "weighted/padded round shaped donut" with a flat center section that allows the suction cup to stick to it. This way you can place the GPS system anywhere on your dash and I assure you, it does not move. Bestbuy sells these for $29.99! Good luck, Ron

I have had mine in the front seat with no reception problems.
After 33 years of marriage not only have I been told where to go but how to get there.
