Default Started car heard squeaking noise

Hello fellow vette buddies!!!
I need help here and was wondering if someone can please give me their advise on what can be wrong. I have an 02 Mag Red 70k miles auto coupe. Only mod's that are on the car (from what I know because I bought it from the dealership) is intake and corsa exhaust. Today I started my car (it was 55 degrees) and as soon as it started I heard squeaking noise. Now I put Sta-bil in yesterday just fyi. I have full tank of gas which is 1 day fresh. So I pop open the hood to see where the squeaking noise is coming from and it seems to be coming from the belt. After 5 min when the car is warmed up the noise went away and everything was back to normal. Any suggestions on what I can do to avoid this from happening again? Does my belt need replacement? Please help me because I am lost here and I don't want to take it to the dealership and pay 100 just to tell me its nothing. Thank you and take care.

Sounds like you do need belts and yes, you can do them yourself very easily. You don't need a trip to the dealer. Go to your local parts place for the belts and grab a wrench to off-load the tensioners. Its easy to do. Spin the pulleys while you are there to make sure they are ok too.

Make sure you get Goodyear Gatorback belts!!! They will eliminate the squeel/squeek. I just did this a few weeks ago.

There are two belts, the a/c belt and the serpentine. At Autozone the serpentine is about $26.00 and the a/c belt is about $18.00.

Install is simple for the serpentine and just a bit of a pain in the @$$ for the a/c belt.

click this link and go to post number 8. There is a very helpful diagram of how the belts go on, thanks to Z06-Jim. I printed the pictures out and used them when replacing the belts.

Good Luck.

At 70K it might also be your idler pulley starting to go... the Tensioner that is. It will squeak loudly... and believe it or not, it sounds like it's is coming from the belts!! It doesn't usually go away but it can be in the early stages of going out so when it warmed up, it stopped squeaking....
