Default What to look for? when buying

looking to get into a Z in early summer, i currently have a 98 c5 that i will be selling, i don't know much about the z's as i've have a z28 up until i bought my c5 a few months ago.

what i do know is that the 01's Early years are supposed to burn oil due to the wrong gapped wrings correct?

if i were to find an 01 i liked, do the 01's respond to bolt on mods like 02+ ? my ideal car would be an 01-02 with around 40,000 miles or so, would be looking to spend around 23-25,000.

Heads up, is this a standard option?
what other things do i need to look for when i'm looking for a zo6,
thanks
-Jason
also, anyone interested in a torch red 6 speed c5?

I believe HUD was optional on 01 Z06's and standard on 02+.
Also, 01 models have pre-cats and cats, they got rid of the pre-cats on 02+ models.
Hopefully other people will be able to help you more than I can.

Good luck finding a car

Well...

First came the dinosaurs...

Then they died, and along came the Arabs...

And they all bought Mercedes Benzes...

Along the way, Chevy reintroduced the Z06 in 2001, and it's been a mile-wide grin for many ever since...

(good luck in your search--hope you find the right one!)

How to keep the power on the pavement is the only concern you should have. They are great cars, you won't regret it! Good luck with your search.

You will love a Z06! I would look at '01's and '02's. Many of the '01's that had oil consumption issues were re-wrung under warranty....and some had no problems at all. All C5's will respond well to modding...so mod away! White was only made in '01 for the C5 Z....they are very sharp and would be cool to have. Electon Blue was available in '02 and '03 I believe...and that is very sweet! Many choices...but which ever Z you buy...I am sure it will put a huge on your face everytime you crank it up!
I would consider putting your vette up for sale soon.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what options were available on the Z's?.

Look at this thread...

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1908291

You will see that '01's didn't have HUD, even as an option. '02's had it standard.

The '01 had 385 hp and the '02 came with 405.

ok cool, i was really wanting to know about the HUD, so getting an 01 really is only going to sacrafice me the HUD. The 20hp isn't a huge deal. I"d really like to get a EB one. Although the price of 2001's are a help. My dad just found a black one with 51 thousand miles for 22,000. 2001

thanks for all of your help.

HUD is a relatively easy upgrade to do to an '01, with parts easily obtained from vendors here on the forum.

RedC5, have you driven a Z06 yet? I doubt you'll be able to tell the difference between an '01 and a '02 - '04. I do think you'll enjoy the HUD, it's pretty neat to see tripple digits .

Good luck!

I have an 01 and it does not burn oil.

I added HUD and it was pretty easy. The hardest part is removing the dash.

The 20hp difference between the 01 and 02+ cars makes no difference on the street. Use the amount you save buying an 01 car to purchase an intake, long tube headers, cam, and tune and you will have a big grin on your face

Someday when I sell my '02 (a LONG TIME from now), I'm going to put on the BSMs so that I can state "FULLY LOADED" in the ad.

I know some people will chime in and defend the '01, but it's a safe bet to go ahead and look at the 02+ because of the 405hp motor, not to mention all of the worthwhile options are standard.

I checked the 2004 options as well and the CE packaged Z06 was the most produced Z06 of the year, not to mention the BSMs were on 60% of every single Corvette that year. It looks like yellow and red without BSMs were the most 'rare'. I got all of that from the same link you read.

Based on the options available, whoever first purchased my Z must have been one cheap S.O.B. No electrochromatic mirrors, no seat memory, no front plate fram, no BSM. But i am still Extrememyl happy. I didn't get it to live in it, only drive it hard.

no i haven't driven one yet, just my 6 speed c5. I can afford an 01 sooner/easier but the i bought my c5 less than a year ago when i couldn't afford a Z, and look where i am at now. I don't want that to happen in another year after an 01. i'm only 22 and i had my z28 for over 5 years as a garage car so i'm hoping that if i find an 01 i'll be happy with it, (unlike my current c5)
also, what is bsm?
