I asked this question over at LS1tech, so I figured I would tap into the knowledge base over here as well, especially with such a Z06-specific question.
Here goes:
The 2002 Z06 had the LS6 with the wilder cam, the "yellow" beehive springs, and the lightweight sodium-filled valves.
Has anyone ever heard of a 2001 Z06, with the 385 horse motor, the "mellower" cam, and the blue valvesprings, coming with the lightweight sodium-filled valves.
Per the opinion of a reputable engine-builder, the set of 2001 Z06 LS6 heads I'm talking about actually came with the lightweight valves.
Anyone heard of GM doing this on some 2001 'vettes?
Nope .... never heard of 2001 heads with the 2002 valves .... and why would GM do this ??? The valves were lightened to go with the 2002 cam which is more "agressive" than the 2001 cam.

2002 is when they were released to the public as part of the upgraded package. The only way an 01' could have sodium filled exhaust valves is if the original 01' valves were replaced with the 02' units after the fact.
It should not have sodium filled valves, but that doesn't mean it doesn't. If the car was a late 2001, there is a chance that it could have sodium valves. Strange things happen on the production line during model year changes.
