Default 6-Speed Shifter ****

Can someone tell me how difficult it would be to replace my standard shifter **** off of my 02 Z06 with one of the round shifter *****? Does it just screw on is is it more involved than that?

The hardest part is removing the stock ****. You pry off the shift pattern cover and then you see the "demon key". This has to be pulled/pryed out. Some people use needle nose visegrips. Then you can just screw it off. Good Luck !

New ***** usually just screw on and use a "jam nut" to locate them.

I guess it was like on my 92. I remember that process.
Thanks

I had a heck of a time with my demon key. The tabs broke on it as I tried to pull it out with vice-grips. I ended up drilling a hole through the middle of it and running a screw down til it bottomed out on the top of the shift lever. From there, I just kept turning the screw and the key followed the threads up and out.

It helps to spray the demon key with some penetrating oil and let it work for 15 minutes before you try to pull the key.

Here's how I got the key out of my stock shifter - clamp on a good size pair of regular vice grips then take a hammer and gently tap up on the side of the vicegrips. The key popped right out.

A flat blade screw driver under both sides of the Demon Key and evenly push them both down at the same time worked very well for me. I also used some WD40. Came out pretty easy. Don

Do not have your face over the shifter as you pull the 'demon key' out. I learned this the VERY hard way

This is by far the best and safest method.

Good Luck
