Default Need help changing rotors

I'm installing new pads and rotors and just ran into a problem. I have the new rotors and pads on but now I can't fit the calipers on because of the pistons. How do I decompress them to fit over the new pads? And also I have brake fluid leaking from the rubber part of a piston. What do I need to do?

Need help quick! Thanks

You need to compress the piston back into the bore. With brand new pads that is to be expected. So,

1. Remove some fluid from the reservoir,a few ounces. Compressing the piston moves fluid back to the reservoir. Put the cover back on the reservoir.
2. Either use an actual piston compressor, or, put old brake pad in caliper and get a big c-clamp. Put it around the caliper body and against the old pad. Compress until it stops.
3. Install new pads and caliper over rotor.
4. Get in car and gently but firmly press brake pedal to the floor a few times until it gets solid.

Now repeat on other side of car.

When you are you done with the pad process then refill brake reservoir to proper amount.

Put wheels back on car and go bed in your new pads.

Forgot about your leak. If the piston is leaking fluid then you need to either rebuild or replace the caliper. It is going to continue leaking. The rubber is just a dust boot and is not the reason it is leaking. The leak comes from the ring/seal around the piston. Very similar to the piston/ring in your engine.
