Default HVAC Problem

Hi,
I just brough home a new to me 2002 vert. On the way home last night, my HVAC did some strange things. 42 outside and set on 72-76 inside produced hot and cold air coming through dash vents, Or same with cold air coming out of defroster. If set to 80, then you would get some heat, Or set to 70 or less, with (windoes down) you get a/c. You could set the mode manually and get a fair amount of heating or cooling . All fan speeds produced less than forceful air flow.

I've read ALL the posts, and haven't quite come up with this combo.
HELP!

Thanks,
Silversides

Sorry to hear about those problems. If you find you need to replace the HVAC dash controller unit I have one for sale that I used in my car for several months...works fine, everything lights up and functions...$100 shipped.

I have the same thing. I will set it to 76 and on the floor and ten minutes later it will be split between floor and defroster and the AC is on. I don't even try the Auto mode anymore because it keeps the AC on the whole time even with the temp set to 80.

Everyone will have a different solution and trouble is, they are all possibile! But save yourself aggravation and make sure your freon level/press is correct. These cars are super sensitive to the proper amount.

First things first, pull up your codes and see what HVAC codes are there.
Hold the options button, press the fuel button 4 times, read the codes, then post them here. Need to see what codes you have before we can make a better diagnosis.
When mine was doing the same thing, it was the right side actuator that was the culprit. Don't remember the code it threw, but it was right there. Replaced the actuator, and all is well.
Here's a couple of links to the codes you might want to bookkmark:

http://www.corvettedoctor.com/2004_DTC_Codes.html
Pull the codes, and post them here, make sure you put an H or a C behind them so we know if they are current of not.
