Default Opinions needed on Flowmaster mufflerw/tips

A major exhaust/muffler shop here in Hawaii sells/installs Flowmaster mufflers w/tips (4) that are made just for a C-5 for $550. They cut off the Original equiptment (oe) mufflers and weld up the Flowmasters in its place. It is a direct fit with all the hangers/tabs. The claim is that there is no need to replace the exhaust pipes prior to the mufflers as the oe pipes are more than adequate. (most aftermarket pipes are of the same size as the oe pipes) I know from experience that Flowmasters flow and sound great.

At $550 (installed - shop does great work and guarantees it's parts & labor) does anyone know why I shouldn't go his route? Sure beats the alternatives that would cost me a minimal twice as much (parts/shipping/labor).

Mahalo for any input.

I read just about all you can read about exhaust components on the various posts. The major difference from the cat back is the crossover. The OEM crossover is very small and at a 90 degree angle. Do a search and I think you'll gain a good deal of knowledge.

Default Bummers! Bad news!

I've been thinking of the crossovers as well. The shop has some as well.

My bad news is that I called tmuffler shop today to make an appointment only to be told that a mistake was made. The price quoted was for one muffler. They were very apologetic and told me they screwed up, but would do it for around $700. 2 mufflers w/tips ($620- "deep" discount) + $60 labor (1/2 price) +4% tax. I told them when they felt bad enought to the tune of $600 to let me know.

My friend,
My C5 came with Flowmasters and exhaust plate setup.
Then I read how some people say "I would never put Flowmasters on a Vette" and such.

IMO, FLOWMASTERS are VERY UNDERATED, if you like loud and aggresive, they are GREAT, IMO.

Give some thought to a exhaust plate set up too, looks very classy and sweet !

Peace,
Les

My C5 came with the Flowmaster C5 package already on it. I really like it. Quiet at cruising speeds, loud at full throttle and no drone.

I ordered flowmasters from Summit Racing, cost about $160 to have them welded on, there is not a lot of room and they need to be even. I ordered the triangular tips....not everyone likes them, but no one else around here that I know of has them, so I like being different. I pasted my youtube clip of the sound....

Summit has them for around $296 each, or $239 with other tips, so something to compare your pricing to. I do not have any drone at highway speeds, though through the gears they have some noise, but when you go WOT they sound great. All my other exhaust is stock.

Default Flowmasters - Done deal

Thanks for everything guys. (Input/picture/sound bite, etc.) This place and you guys are great!

The pricing was an honest mistake on their part. They just made the mistake of quoting me the price of one side ($525) instead of two. We have agreed on a parts/install price for $700. It gets done tomorrow morning. I will have my choice of tips. An x crossover will be an additional $160.

As for an exhaust plate, I have placed my Hawaii (required) safety inspection sticker there instead of on the rear rightside of the bumper as required.

Default The cost Breakdown

Here is the cost breakdown:

$308 per muffler
$60 installation per side
$10.70 tax
$766.70 total

They rounded it out to $700.

Not to shabby when you consider their original quote was $529 + tax for one side. That's $1,102 with tax for both muffles installed ...... At $700 I think I got a deep discount. Remember, this is Hawaii. We pay the "Paradise Tax." (Shipping!)

The cheapest cat back system (Granateli) would run about $550 + shipping (about another $100 - $150 I am in Hawaii...) and installation ($75 -$100) + tax. Maxed out $800. So I saved a $100 and I think I will be happy.

I've been running the Flowmasters for a couple of months now.Actually I paid $800.00 for the pair installed. They have a really nice deep tone. Not to loud in the cabin. Sound really good at WOT. Nice deep tone at idle. There really not a very aggressive sounding muffler. If your looking for a real sound difference don't go with them. If you want a little rumble, and low interior noise there great. If go with them, I'd like your opinion.

What you discribed is exactly what I was looking for and what I got.

The guys at Exhaust Systems Hawaii did a very professional job. They even took out a level and a tape measure to insure the pipes were aligned and level. (For those of you on Oahu, Hawaii: Robert in Kaneohe and Roland in Waipahu are honest, outstanding and upfront guys. They are gems to work with and they and their staff do good work. However, as you are well aware, living in Hawaii you pay the Paradise Tax...)

I have a good low rumble at idle, a pleasant deep growl at cruising speed and a here I come, authoritative bark at WOT. I couldn't be happier. The only thing that would have been better is if I had only had to spend $400 to $500................. (Again, the Paradise Tax!)
