Personal Plate Issues
I filled out the form for personal plates here in NJ, sent it out with a $50.00 dollar check and slipped it in the mail 9 weeks ago.
I got a little concerned so I stopped by the local D.M.V. and asked if there was any way for them to check on the status, this is where it gets funny.
The lady told me I have to call the special plates unit..
I was like what?..i didnt know there was a secret underground division called the "Special plates unit"
So I called today and got a guy clearing his throat and introduced himself as FRANK. Kinda sounded like I called a low end garage as he never said this was a unit of the D.M.V.
I explained my problem to him and after a gaggle of throat clearing he explained he would have to look for my application in the pile.
I thought the D.M.V. would have a system of computers and such but I guess they use the hand going through the pile method.
He said IF he finds it he will get it on processed this week.
GOD I HATE NJ.
Why cant I just get my plates for my C5?
OK my rant is done and I feel better now...well not really but thats my story.

I've been waiting seven weeks for a reprint of a plate I already have, just with a different background.
Hey, it could work, if they are that bassackwards in their operation.
It was news to me also.
I thought it was a joke but it is a real division sadly..
I could give you the number and you too can speak with Frank

I did mine online in Jersey with absolutely no problems...the biggest problem was deciding which one I wanted and on which plate... looking at how it was going to actually look got interesting. good luck using snail mail

Note from the link:
Note: If your vehicle is leased, you cannot purchase a personalized plate online. Please contact the MVC Special Plate Unit at (609) 292-6500 or toll-free in NJ at (888) 486-3339 and ask for FRANK!

Before that, they at least did have an email address you could send plate requests to, and they would reply telling you if/what was available. That's how I got mine...I emailed them 5 requests, all basically the same thing with just spelling variations, and they replied the next day telling me 4 of the 5 were available. I then filled out the form with my top choice, and mailed it in with the check.
Sure beats the old way of writing down your 3 choices and sending it in, hoping/wondering what plates (if any) you'd actually get. (been there, done that too).

Seriously though, the Virginia DMZ offices are so f#cked up, althouh their online services are pretty good. But I avoid the USPS like the plague. And we want government provided health care? The government is only good at one thing- bombing the SNOT out of stuff. Damn we can kick some ***.
But I digress. Back on topic.
