Default ACA HIDs Arrived - Kudos to Corvette Garage

First I'd like to thank Nate, proprietor extraordinaire, loyal, longtime forum member and truly one of our treasured resources on this forum. Nate, as many of you know as the man behind the familiar Corvette Garage logo, took my order for a set of the ACA HIDs a while back and kept me updated via email on the status of my order. I think he was amazingly patient and courteous considering the frequent undeserved bashings he took for the slow deliveries from his component suppliers.

Anyway, today my ACA kit arrived, as promised, beautifully packaged and completely intact. Man, are these things gorgeous - headlight artwork, if there is such a thing. Reminds me of my 300ZX lighting system. The headlamp housing assemblies are of excellent quality and feel very solid. The kit comes complete with all harnesses, ballasts and even wire ties and screws. It also comes with Corvette Garage's own installation booklet and the OEM manual as well.

This HID kit is meant for Mrs. Patches' C5 since her's is her dd and she frequently drives at night. I could just not allow her to continue driving at night with the lousy stock setup. This is the first round of gifts to her for our 10th anniversary this week. I'll be doing the install this weekend and, of course, documenting and posting a thread of said upgrade activity.

In the meantime, here are a few pics of the components.

I would love to have a set on my coupe as well but that will have to wait for a few months until I can swing another kit and the time to install it. Not really a big deal as I hardly ever drive mine at night.

Those are some great lights, I got a set from Nate around 6 months ago and the installation went just as identified in the directions. Initially I had some jiggling in the lights when the car went over bumps. I put a piece of rubber between the bulb base (metal base connected to the bulb) and the sides of the housing so that the bulb can not move up and down in the housing, problem solved (others have added padding to the back of the bulb with hose washers(did not work well for me)). So you may want to try to do the same before you install them to head off the problem.

One of the best mods I did. They look great on the car and most importantly they work so well at night and that cutoff is great.

Patches,

Your included instructions are likely fine, but there are several posts with pics from those of us that have already installed ACAs that may be worth your time to look at. I looked at three different sets of instructions and learned something from each as well as tons from CF members that did the install. It is not very hard once you get it laid out.
One tip for sure.......take the OEM assembly off the car to do your assembly, it makes it all SO MUCH EASIER

Best of luck,

Jim

Naw, I've seen some of the stuff Patches gets into. He's one of those tranny pullin', engine rebuilding, Corvette engineering types! It's "AMATEUR NIGHT AT THE APOLLO" over here when I'm in my garage!

Best of luck,

That's good advice, for sure, Jim. I perused the previous install/discussion threads here in detail for a while before taking the plunge and ordering them. I don't like to go into a project like this without knowing where the potential pitfalls may be so I read up quite a bit to glean as much info from my forum buddies who've already been down the same path.

Thanks for the link, Jim.
