Default 2.73 rear guys...

Did you know that the C6 offers the 2.73 as the "Performace Axle"?

I don't know if the stock C5 2.73 will fit into the C6, but it could be a good market for those of us looking to change our stock C5 rears!

Yes; but that happened along with the A6; so the increased tranny ratios & gears counters the wussy AlGore 2.73 rear (to some extent).

I don't know if the stock C5 2.73 will fit into the C6, but ...
sadly ... no. Different design.

Default I HATE MY 2.73's

I want some snort when I hit the throttle. I feel like I am in a wanna be sports car with these gears. I will be switching to a used set of 3.42's before long as I have been hearing nothing but good things from anyone that has them.

Exactly what I did. Best bang for the buck. You wont regret this mod. It will really wake the car (and you) up

I can't wait for warmer weather to really give them a workout. It really has made a difference though!

Install is about $400. A new Getrag 3:42 $1200. Used I've seen around $500 depending on mileage.

I payed $1200.0 for a brand new 3.42 rear from A&A Corvette in Oxnard California plus $400.00 labor at a local shop for the install. You will also need a tune to reset shift points, rev limiter etc..
This is by far the best bang for your buck that you can do! Your car will not feel the same and will actually be what it is suposed to be, a real performance car! Instead of a 13.30ish car you can say hello to the high 12s if you can get it to hook!!!

Just do it. Dave

I also slapped in 3200 Yank. No downside to the performance. Some people mention slip, but it feels the same to me. With the 3.42s my mileage went down about 15%, and the performance went up about a ton. It is a different car.

Best mod that I have done....but, does anyone know if there are two kinds of 3.42 gears? Someone told me that a Z06 six speed has something different about it's rear as opposed to a "plain" 3.42 setup.
Or is he blowing smoke? Are there two different part numbers?
I love my 3.42's; Should have been standard equipment!

I have the manual 6 speed and went from 3.42's to the 3.90. I have to agree---best bang for the buck. My 10-60mph time dropped .9 secs. That's huge.

Installed with update to the shift points I've been quoted as 1600. That's for a new Z06 carrier. If you have 3.15's, the cost may be lower if you find someone to do the ring-pinion swap in that carrier. Otherwise, you'll need a new 3 series carrier. I wouldn't waste my time with used. You can certainly pick one up here and save yourself some money, but you don't know how that rear was used (abused?).

I speak with experience, since I bought a used rear 3.42 for my TA. Did the swap myself. Something was never right with it. Burnt oil smell, seemed like a lot of friction. Two weeks ago, ended up ripping it completely apart, replacing all the bearings, swapping axles to the old one, and upgraded ring-pinion to 3.73's. With ECS's street tune this week (Thanks Doug!!! ) it feels like a whole new car.

Yes there is a difference. I know for sure that the gears in the Z06 are shot-peened. It somewhat hardends them and makes it quieter. Don't think there are any other upgrades, like the shafts, but I could be wrong.

there are two different Getrag 3.42 carriers. The one for the Z06 has strengthened (via shot-peened) gears.

Should have been standard equipment!

The rear gear I bought from A&A Corvette was the z06 with the hardened gears! Call em up. My price was $1200.00 but that was last year.
Dave

p.s. After the gearchange "hang on" as it will be a different car and you could actually "lose it" if not careful on run craps!

As a presidential candidate, he had not yet elevated himself to dolt status, so I'll go easy on the 49.999%.
He crowned himself dolt with his manmade global warming charade.
