eh guys, can someone have some input on options to shielding heat to or onto the starter.I read that with having longtube headers they will eventually ruin the starter.
I have been running headers for years and never had a problem with the starter. I think this was more of an issue on the older cars and on turbo cars. I say save your money.
I've had LT headers on my car since Jauary 2004 (24,000 miles), and in that time have run 4-7 HPDE (track events) a year so the car is getting as hot as you'll get it for 30 min stints. I'm at 80,000 miles now.
Zero issues with my starter... inspected it last January when I put my cam in and pulled my headers to have them ceramic coated to keep heat out of the clutch hydraulics and cabin etc.
The headers have plenty of clearance, it's not like some older cars where they basically sit on the starter.
I have ceramic coated long tubes and the Lingenfelter heat shield for the starter. When it comes to heat, I figure less is better. However, there are heat shields out there for a LOT less money than the Lingenfelter.
The gear reduction type starters on modern cars don't suffer as much from heat as did the old timey starters, especially if your headers are ceramic coated.
Still, it you want heat shielding look at SUMMIT RACING or JEG'S for the wraps with VELCRO. They very inexpensive and effective. It's the same material that is used oem to protect wires and hoses.
Use keywords "starter heat shield wraps" at either site...

No need for a starter heat shield, your chances of failure from heat are about as good winning the lotto
