On the '97-'99 cars, you could elect to turn on a passive lock/unlock feature - much the same as on the C6. When you approached the car, the doors would unlock without you having to activate the RFA. It would in turn lock as you walked away.
The '00 car uses similar receivers, but without the Passive mode, and the fob that you purchased with the switch should still work. The '01 and newer cars used different fobs and they were not backwards compatible.
I think if you synch up the fob and retrain it as per the instructions in the owners manual, you should be fine.

Correct - the fobs for 97 –2000 are interchangeable (lock & unlock push buttons will function).
The 2000 car has no passive capability so the passive switch is useless on the 2000.
On the other hand, if you don’t mind losing the passive function on a 97 – 99 Corvette, you can use the 2000 fob.
