Ive owned my 01Z06 for a while now and the car is fantastic. But I would love to know why certain elements of the Corvette community, etc., treats the 01 like a red-headed stepchild as compared to the 02-04 models. My car runs like a scalded ape, gets great mileage, and because its black , it gets lots of attention. Besides that, I havent seen any publicaton or info that says the later cars are significantly faster. All the info ive seen theres not an ants hairs difference. Love to get plenty of input!!!!
Well, as someone that does not hang out in the "Corvette community", I can say I never here much good or bad said about any model Corvette. Maybe you just need to get away from those "elements", enjoy your car, and not worry about what anyone else thinks of it.
I think this post is mis placed. You should really post this in the C5 section. I think all Corvettes are great and I myself am not aware of any issues with the 01 Zs.
I had an 01 convertible, not a z06. The only thing I can remember is the oil consumption issues that some engines had that year. The Z06 was rated 385HP too, maybe they think it was a lesser car, I don't. I don't know why people would give you a hard time. Great car

The only problem with the 01 LS6's, was the oil consumption issue. Alot of them had to be brought back to the dealers to be re-ringed. And of course the 02's came out with 20 more hp.
A few here have compared the performance of their non-Z06 C6 to a C5 Z06, but when pressed on the issue, admitted they were comparing it to an 01 Z06. It's my understanding that the 01 Z06 may be just slightly slower than the 02-04 Z06s, but I wouldn't really consider that comparison a bashing of the 01 Z06.

Post a pic in the C5 section....you'll get lots of compliments
The '01 Z06 was the first year of the Z06 model for the C5. The only reason that anyone could have to comment on was when given a choice between the '01 and the '02-'04 is that they would choose the '2-'04 for the more horsepower. There are likely few who can feel 20 crank hp in the seat of the pants. There are a few differences in the LS6 that came out in 2002 you can find some of the information online:
The 2001 Z06 was a great car and a great extension of the C5 program. I would say to you that those who treat it as the red headed step child are not Corvette lovers in the first place. Bench racing is nice and the horsepower wars go back way before then. You've got a great car, enjoy it. Don't worry about what others think.
Most of those who look down on an '01 Z probably drive an automatic convertible.
Anyone who knows Z06s would not look down on any of them. Some (not all) of the the '01s had some oil consumption issues. Most were corrected under warranty. Like all models, they got better every year. In '02 GM bumped the HP from 385 to 405. Not a huge difference, but a nice "upgrade". Through the next 3 years they replaced shift forks, shocks, etc. so the '04 was the best of the C5Zs.
Again - they all rock!
I think you've posted this in the correct forum...you have a Z06 (or it's already been moved around).
If you really want to hear anti '01 Z06 replies, then posting this in the regular C5 General/Tech forums might be more productive in that regard.
As suggested above, it's about the haves and have nots. Some owners of C6/Z06 might do the same with the entire generation of C5/Z06 cars, now.
Don't worry about it, just enjoy your car.
