Hi my name is Matt, I am new to Corvette forum. Presently I do not owne a Vette it has been some time since I sold my 87 C4. I am dying to get another vette. I am shopping for a C5. I have two that I am iterested in, and that match my price range. The first is a 2000 magnetic red with 40,000 miles, the other is a 2004 magnetic red with 62,000 miles, both coupes in comprable condition, priced aroud 22k. I don't know what direction to go, should i go for the lower miles or the newer model year? Both are one owner cars. I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
Matt

Welcome!
Given that they both have the same options, and are in comparable condition, I would go with the lower miles. I would give up 4 years for the lower miles. But then again, that's just me.
Good luck and let us know what you pick.

Welcome aboard Matt.

What are the options on both Vettes?
Tire condition, etc?
Any service records?

If all is the same, I'd probably go for the '04. I'm sure others will chime in shortly.

I would go with the lower miles and that's exactly what I did when I bought my Vette. There was an 03 with ~ 68K on the clock but the 00 I finally bought only had ~ 40K on the clock. I'm very happy with my choice and the car

When I bought my Vette 5+ years ago I looked at 4 different ones and went with the oldest 99, as it had the least amount of miles, was in the best shape with the most options and cost me the least, and I am happy with my decision to get an older one. But, then that is what I did and I did drive all 4 of them before I went back and got the one I drove 2nd of the ones I drove

The '04 may still have some warranty left on it. What part of the country are you in? Fill out your profile.

2000 w/40K miles = 5K per year avg. = weekend warrior/garage queen
2004 w/68K miles = 17K per year avg. = daily driver.

As has been said, low miles usually wins out over newer year. However, depending on the options the cars have, you may want to get the one that's just right for you.

Nothing wrong with the older C5's. I bought a '97 a year ago with 44K on it. Not one problem since.

Welcome to the Forum, and let us know what you end up with and then post some pics.

I agree - what are options on the cars? What transmission? If auto - which rear end ratio? Both have HUD and Active Handling (the '04 will as A/H was standard equipment by that point)? Any mods at all on either car?

The '04 car has a little more torque and HP, but so much depends on the condition and options.

How's the leather look in the '04? What about tires? Was the higher mileage mostly city stop and go or mostly highway cruising miles?

All things being equal - I'd probably go for the lower mileage car.

Welcome in any case!

Thanks for the feedback, I need to do a little more homework on the the two vettes. Hope I decide soon this has become an obsession. I value all your opinions, and look forward to sharing my choice with you.

Matt

Welcome to the Forum!!!

I myself would go with the lower miles, the 2000
is great C5.I'm happy with mine, nothing against the
'04 but,the 2000 has had less wear and tear as far
as mileage is concerned.

Good Luck,keep us posted!!!
