Do the fans come on simultaenously or sequentially? I let it idle in the garage & the temp got up to 220. Only one fan was running at this point (passenger side). Is the drivers side fan not working or would it come on at a higher temp?
You are correct in your assumption. They come on sequentialy. Not sure what temp the second one comes on at but I'm sure someone will chime in shortly.
I need to know also, I just had a cam installed and was sitting a drive-thru for a while to get some food and the temperature reached around 230, I hit the A/C button and the temp starting coming down and stayed around 190.

That's pretty high temp, I'm sure your ride was tuned after the cam was installed, right? What T-stat are you using?

You might want to lower that T-stat to a 160-degree, and a tune is definitely in order once you go inside the engine like a cam. A good tune should set you straight. Your tuner might make a recco on that T-stat.
A 160 thermostat does not make the car run cooler. All it does is OPEN fully at 160 degrees instead of 180 degrees. Your engine temp will run the same at full operating temp, it just may take a little longer to get to the normal operating temp due to the thermostat opening sooner with the 160 degree unit!
I'm not sure why so many people think that a lower degree thermostat will cause the engine to run cooler at full operating temp- it just doesn't work that way!

I'm not an authority but I believe the primary purpose of the second fan is when the A/C is on ,and is a back up for higher temps. This seems to be confirmed by temp drop by kicking in the A/C in the drive up lane and getting a temp drop.

A 160*F stat will keep the coolant temp at 172-174*F at highway speeds. Then the low speed fans should programed to turn on at 180 & off at 176. The high speed fans should be programed to turn on at 182 & off at 176.
I've installed many LS1/LS6 160*F stats, and they all run cooler than the stock 192/195*F stat. A lower engine temp helps reduce spark knock, and increases the power slightly.

With my 160T, I've become used to seeing 176-178 in the South in August on the highway, and it has yet to go above 190 in Summer in city driving with A/C. I might panic if I see 230.....
