Default Torque converter

I'm looking at 3.42 rear diff to upgrade my 2.73 auto coup. I was going to due a new torque converter while I'm there. What stall should I look for and were is a good place to purchase. Right now I have LG long tube headers, high flow cats, Borla exhaust, BBK intake manifold and throttle body. Might due heads and cam later or supercharge.

Thanks, Laurence

Default 3200

I bought my car used '03 A4 with a 3200 Yank and factory 3:15s and I'm very happy with it.

Most will say a Yank 3200. That is what I have, and it is super in every way. No slip, and snappy. Certainly a good choice if you get a 224 cam.
If you are going to get a donkey d1ck cam, get a higher stall converter.

3.42's and 3200 stall are very popular combo. I'd especially recommend it if you want to add power later.

Going to 3.90's with 3600 stall is a great combo, but once you seriously add power, you'll never hook the tires.

Found a used diff and talked to the folks at Yank converters and bought a SS3200. They said it would be good with my current setup and future HP plans. Thanks for all the help.

I have a Yank SY3500 and 3.42's with headers, exhaust and tune and it really made a huge difference going to that from the 2.73's.

ran a best of 11.8 @ 116 with this setup on drag radials.

I am a little worried about Day to day driving with such a high stall. I never thought about the need for a trans cooler. Is one needed?

I think so, my trans temps would get pretty warm in stop and go driving, but you may not have as much congestion like the DC metro area.

I have a 3:42 and a Yank SS3200. No oil cooler yet, but will install one before summer/hot weather. It works great in any driving condition.

With a stall, yes. Cheap insurance.

Add a trani cooler with the TC. If you're going to do H/C shortly then go for a SS3600 if not the 3200 will be fine.

I don't know if it common on Vettes but it was a problem with Turbo Buicks a few years ago.Very annoying but they did work.
Take care.

That would all depend on what you want it to feel like.

Do you want it for drag strip use or a DD

If a DD id say 2800-3200 maybe Also depends on the type of converter as well. You will also be in need of a tranny cooler setup.
