Default Shave the front air dam??

I have an issue which I'm thinking about the best way to resolve. I have an 02 Z which has been lowered on factory bolts, along with running 30 series 19 / 20" tires. I love the stance and how it looks, but, damn this car scrapes on everything.

When I'm driving alone or when I have my wife with me ( all 120 lbs of her) it is ok and manageable. However when I took my Dad out for a ride it would scrape on what seemed to be everything during our 10 mile jog. Granted, he is a fairly big guy, 250+ but even the slightest change in the roads we were on, 55 mph flat county roads, etc it would seem to scrape on anything.

I have about 1.5" of clearance from the bottom of the spoiler to the ground with no one in it. When I add myself (211 lbs) and say anyone who is heavier I have a hell of a time and it was very annoying.

So, instead of raising it back up about a 1/2" would there be any negative affects if I were to remove the air dam and make a clean cut and remove about a 1/2" off of it?

I know it has a purpose, so I do not want to affect it to where it might hinder the cooling / aerodynamics, etc.

Have any of you with lowered Vettes done this? Do you have any other solutions to this problem that you might have done? Below is a picture of the front to give you an idea of how low it is. I can get a 2x4 under the air dam, but that is it. I do not want to scrape on everything when I have a passenger.

Thanks for your time!. See pictures below.

You can cut up to 1" off without creating a problem.

I suffer the same, but it appears that mine is starting to droop a bit. I am going to get under there to see if I can reinforce the mounting so that it rides higher. If I come up with anything,I'll pass it on. It is a drag.. huh huh huh... Mine drags on the garage floor every time I back out or drive in. Tht little lip they put there to stop the water getting in is all it takes....

Thanks guys. I will go with the trimming route then as I would hate change the stance on this car! I think it is perfect the way it sits!

If it drag enough the problem will take care of itself.

I trimmed mine about 2" because of my supercharger setup and lowered car.

I think a vendor what do pretty good by creating a 3-piece plastic air dam that's an inch shorter than OEM. I would certainly buy it.

Or you could just cut the OEM. They are not that expensive new.

Default Little bit at a time.....

I think mine is getting shaved a little bit at a time. Seems like on most drives, there is one place (at least) that I misjudge and the darn thing scrapes. It's just so hard to drive it that slow........

Well, look at it this way. When the car is stock the thing is 2.5 or 3 inches off the ground. You lowered the car so that the air dam is now 1 or 2 inches off the ground. Shaving a half inch is only going to take it where it was when it was stock, right?

I shaved half inch off mine with no temp problems. As long as you have something down there channeling air up to the radiator it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm at stock ride height and there is a manhole cover in my neighborhood that my car scrapes on if I drive strait over it. people have an annoying habit of parking their cars on the street where I live, right next to that thing in particular. I've gotten into the routine of driving all the way into the other side of the road just to avoid that particular spot. I also scrape on the driveway every time! I want to lower my car as well, I just love the way lowered cars look, I'll get to that before long I'm sure!
