amsoil weight?
As for the filter, I personally would not recommend a longer filter on the Corvette. Given the filters location, a longer filter will stick below the oil pan and be susceptible to hitting something, potentially causing a loss of oil pressure.
My thoughts on which oil to use. The new API SM standards put fairly restrictive limits on the ZDDP anti-wear additives that can be used in 30 grade oils. For a car out of warranty, I would consider the AMSOIL Synthetic 5w40 European Motor Oil. Note that this oil does not meet the GM Standard 4718M, which the owners manual requires for the Corvette. This oil has a High Temp High Shear rating of 3.7. As a comparison, Mobil 1 has an HTHS rating of 3.09. AMSOIL SAE Synthetic High Performance 10w40 has an even higher HTHS at 4.3, but the 5w40 will flow better when cold and is thus probably a better choice for a daily driver. FYI, in my track driven Z06, I use 10w40, but let the oil warm up to over 150F before I go out on the track.
If you desire to use an oil suitable for GM Standard 4718M, AMSOIL makes these products in order of cost/quality:
AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic 0w30
AMSOIL SAE Synthetic 5w30
AMSOIL XL Synthetic 5w30
All three of these have HTHS ratings of 3.2.
I use the previous version of the 0w30 in my 06 CTS-V (I stocked up before AMSOIL came out with the new Signature Series 0w30 this fall).

Please note that Amsoil only "recommends" the oils above for use where GM4718M is specified. The oils may or may not actually meet the spec.
You can count on the Mobil 1 to MEET the spec because GM says it does.
