Default Header Questions

So I've spent the last day reading the many different header threads and plan to get either the Dynatech or Kooks complete system.

My big question is, at what point will I see the advantage of running a 1 7/8" primary with 3inch collectors?

The system is for a 2003 Z06, and for now I plan to run the stock engine with probably only a cam and heads in the near future. Down the road I'd like to go to a bigger engine such as a 402, etc.

If I get a 1 3/4 system how badly will I handicap myself when I want to upgrade? And if I run a 1 7/8 system on a nearly stock engine, will there be any significant problem?

As well, what is the stock exhaust size on the Z06? I notice that the Kooks 1 7/8" system ends up with 3 inch pipes all the way back to the axle back exhaust. Would I have any problems hooking that up to the stock Z06 TI system?

Only advantage of the 1 7/8s is for bigger displacment engines or forced induction vehicles.... Heads/Cam/Intake 346s are fine with the 1 3/4s.

I think stock exhaust size is only 2.5 inch. Kooks should have a step down to connect right to the stock cabtack.... IIRC.

Great question. I have wondered this myself, but I think it'll be hard to pinpoint.

From what I hear, the 1.75" is fine for bolt on cars or mild H/C cars, but the 1.875" is better for big inch or FI cars. There is no doubt you would loose some low end with the larger primaries, but it'll still be an increase over stock. I think your dillemma is best answered by asking how soon are you going big inch?

I think all systems neck down at the end of the x-pipe to fit the 2.5" catbacks, altough LG is now offering a totally 3" system and a new 3" catback.

I probably wouldn't see going to a bigger engine for another year. Would I have any problems using a 1 3/4" system with a 402 or 427? I'd probably wouldn't gain the most top end but would I see a nice jump in torque?

Oh, If a combine the headers with Borla Stingers, will I be able to use the radio anymore on the highway? I'm familiar with drone, I was running a straight pipe exhaust on my 05 Silverado and the 1500 - 1800 rpm drone didn't bother me too much. I'm just worried about getting the system and being unable to hear anything else while cruising down the highway. I have a Corsa sport system on my 07 Silverado Vmax and had one on my Grand Cherokee SRT8 and found that they were never loud enough for my liking.
