Notably Harley-Davidson installed an X-pipe of sorts on their 1977 -1979XLCR Cafe racer and it did increase the horsepower a tiny bit over the stock crossover pipe. Reportedly, the additional horsepower was due to the X-pipe's superior exhaust scavenging.

I'm a believer in "X" pipes, and Hi-Flow Cats. I have an SLP on the Mustang, Magnaflow on the 'Vette. In each case, idle improved, and exhaust flow was enhanced. Most noticeably on the Mustang, which used to feel like it would "engine brake" on deceleration. I like using a HI-FLOW CAT because it eliminates raspiness and popping over a non catted system. Plus I noticed a huge improvement of reduced backpressure in the Mustang with the install. Ford uses 4 converters in the Mustang. SLP's setup utilizes only 2. Who MAKES THE BEST HI-FLOW CAT SETUP FOR THE CORVETTE? I'd like to change over this summer.
