Default Ambient Temperature Gage

I've noticed that other forum members have reported problems with their outside temperature display. Well, I bought my '99 C5 used in 2001and it has never displayed outside air temperature. Perhaps I have this feature and it's simply not working?

Questions please: Is the ambient temperature read-out an option? If so, how do you know if a car is so equiped? Where is the temp. probe located?

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't think I have the ambient temperature feature on my car. I have simple, rotary ***** for the AC and heater controls. So, if f I'm interpreting all this correctly, the outside temperature is displayed at an optional, digital AC/heater control center?

Look at your owners manual sections 3-2 & 3-4. These pages show the two types of a/c - heater controls. Sounds like you have the manual system without the digital readout.

Only the Automatic Electronic Dual Climate Control System shows the outside temperature.

Thanks timemender, mystery solved. Someone recently posted an owner's manual, so I looked up the various AC and heater controls that are available on my car. Well, I don't have the automatic climate control. And this means that I also don't have digital ambient or interior temperature readout capability.

If you have the outside read feature and it is not hooked up the outside air will always read 69 degrees by default. If it is not working, it will not affect you A/C performance, ask me how I know.

Yes, you have to have the dual zone A/C for it to have an outside temp sensor.

That sucks. I didn't know they had an option either.

Yup, I must have the el-cheapo AC/heater controls. However, I do have the HUD, which I really appreciate.
