I've noticed lately that when I shift from 2nd the 3rd in my MN 6, it seems like there's a "catch" as it goes into 3rd about half the time, almost like the syncros are a problem. I've been running Amsoil ATF for a little less than 10,000 miles. I was wondering if Amsoil Syncromesh would help, or am I looking at bigger problems? Any suggestions?
I'm sure its posted in the forum several times, but essentially the quick version is pull the center console cover out, then open the shifter assembly. Inside you will see the rod that connects it to the transmission with a star bolt in it. On the front of it, you will find an alignment pin in the raised position. Put the shifter into neutral, then push the alignment pin down into the hole, all the way till it stops. At this time, your shifter is locked in place and should not move. Loosen the star bolt and you will probably see the rod move to its neutral position. Tighten the bolt again then pull the alignment pin back up into its storage position and put the car back together. Before you put it all the way together, you might want to start it up and try it out first while sitting still, then put it back together.
